Is Communism in any way an effective boogeyman in modern American politics? Obviously the tail of the 20th century was defined by Communism vs Democratic Capitalism, but these days does anyone actually care this much about Communism as a threat to their way of life?

Not quite in the same way. The younger generations are embracing it, but capitalism still has a huge bunch of fans across the political spectrum. Right now socialism is bearing the brunt of abuse from those fans, because they don't see communism as a looming threat. Yet.

I always ask people on 4chan how feminism and racial diversity in video games or movies is promoting Marxism because none of it demands the seizing of the means of production and seems more like a way to just make extra money by selling more poo poo to women or other races than white people, and have never gotten a coherent answer.
