TLDR: "infinite .9s repeating" isn't a number, its more like a formula which if you really solve it equals 1. You can never actually represent "infinite .9s" at one time on paper, its not a number, its an idea of a number. Get it?

The solution involves limits and cardinality of sets, if you don't know calculus its not really gonna grok easily.

The confusion comes from thinking you can't have two different numbers that are equal (true) but the thing is .9999 isn't 1, its only infinite .999999s which isn't really a number. So there's no problem.

So what you're saying is they're NOT the same because 1 is a real number that exists and .999999... is a fake number that doesn't exist

I got this title for the dumbest fucking possible take on sea shanties. Specifically, I derailed the meme thread because sailors in the 18th century weren't woke enough for me, and you shouldn't sing sea shanties. In fact, don't have any fun ever.
I don't know how any cop hears "well did you stop any ACTUAL criminals today" and doesn't immediately yell "YES, YOU, JACKASS!"

Turns out the Baltimore PD uses a similar system, and this one cop was unaware of the 30-second buffer feature. As a result, he recorded himself planting drugs for a search in the 30-second interval prior to him turning on his camera to record the search itself:

On Friday night, the state's attorney dismissed 34 drug cases where this cop's credibility was crucial to obtaining a conviction. And well, he doesn't have any anymore.

This is why we need police cameras on all police, and they shouldn't be able to turn them off.

Whaddya wanna bet the Baltimore PD is more interested in covering this up right now rather than punishing those responsible?

I know it's been said that having all cops have cameras on all the time would be a logistical nightmare, but there has to be a good balance between that and missing spontaneous violent incidents because their sirens weren't on or officers gaming the cameras to incriminate someone.

It might be hard but we put a man on the moon, we can put cameras on cops.

Also if youtube can handle the amount of footage being simultaneously uploaded and viewed every second that it does, somebody could build a system that would handle the cops' traffic. But you know, government budgets and all that.

To be fair, my local township didn't put a man on the moon, and federally regulated police video monitoring rules for local municipal police seems like a step in a bad direction.

I don't disagree that the officers shouldn't have control over what is and is not being recorded while they're on duty. Or that cities don't have the means to give their police the methods to more thoroughly monitor their on-duty officers. But those cities also have the means to give their forces more officers to maybe alleviate workloads on patrol officers, or get them better crisis management training, and that hasn't happened either in most places.
