I haven't been on SA for years but the person who gave me my previous av as a joke felt guilty for doing so and decided to get me a non-shitty av
Pity, it skipped one of my favorite LSR stories: the duel between Eldridge and Thomas in Arpajon, in 1924. I wrote an article about it! (... in the form of a car suggestion for Gran Turismo. But I'm pretty sure it's the best article on the Fiat Mefistofele you'll find)

I'm an engineer (mechanical) who works with a bunch of electrical and computer engineers. All but one electrical engineer I've ever met is a very strange person. I have a theory that the more theoretical or hard to visualize your field is, the weirder the people in your field are on average. Example for engineering:

Construction Management Engineers - least weird
manufacturing
industrial
mechanical (maybe higher, depending on type)
computer
electrical
chemical
nuclear

Of course, as a mechanical, i'm not weird at all. No sir.

I can just imagine the weirdness going on with that car, justified by "No, you just don't UNDERSTAND the PHYSICS, it will work FLAWLESSLY". No, you wrapped a coolant hose with electrical tape to stop it leaking. That's going to be a problem.

Pretty much. Engineers generally get progressively less weird the more practical their field bias/experience is, though with a sharp uptick in both weirdiness and beardiness at the extreme reach of that end too.

As a EE who works at a company full of EEs, I can confirm that they are mostly boring imbeciles who drive beige Camries.

I watched as one tried to watch a YouTube video on how to change a tire on his Honda Odyssey from a basement level parking garage instead of reading his owner's manual. He then got a big floor jack from a security guard, instead of using the scissor Jack and proceeded to start jacking up on the plastic rear bumper cover.

I quite like the fact they look a little like they're put together in sheds. Very British. ...and then you learn they're obscenely capable cars and they just become cooler.

Never seen the Superlight before, outside of the too huge front lights I quite like it. MR setups offer a nice packaging solution and cooler shapes for cars IMO.

Just watching some vids and TBH the engine seems like a truly torqueless wonder - nothing down low and gets all fury and hp like a switch up high, while being incredibly complex. A 3 rotor would be a much calmer and predictable power delivery and be a lot simpler to work with... let alone a NA 20B would match the hp.

I want to know too. Seems like the only rule is must be 2L. This guy is awesome, first 4x 500cc motor cycle engines in v16 config for his 2L, then a triple rotor (I'm even having doubts he's got a 20b, could be a kit like they used to do, or a home built 13g!)

Yeah, if someone is messing about with engines like this guy is, I doubt "slap on a turbo" is an option

Group T! The FIA class for offroad vehicles. I hadn't been paying much attention to it because I assumed it would be all ponderous trophy trucks, I had no idea the reality was closer to silhouette dune buggies ripping through the countryside. It's pretty much impossible to get reliable specs as they're all kit cars (they're entered with the chassis manufacturer as the manufacturer name and the engine manufacturer as the model name), with the occasional production car thrown in. Like at 3:18 in this video, that sure looks like an actual 6R4, and I'm not terribly good at telling engines apart by ear, but it sounds like the NA V6 it's supposed to have:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5FIwWHUXrb8&t=198s

e: OTOH #182 is registered as a "KARL'S CAR Bmw" so, just another kit car

Oh hmmm they're actually FFSA classes, less restrictive than the equivalent FIA classes

e: and the chassis "manufacturers" all seem to be lone French guys building the things by hand

In my experience, they do stuff that *works* but is completely at odds or inappropriate for automotive norms. Wrong connectors, odd wiring, kludged on, non-matching stuff. don't even get me started on Ham radio guys adding crap to their cars.
