Or evidence that Kamala Harris is such an ignorant person that she isn't aware of that? I can't honestly say that I have any evidence of the latter, but it's so insane to pretend like she wouldn't know that that I hadn't considered it. Why exactly do you think children are truant, exactly? Do you think it's because parents don't give a poo poo that their kids are missing school? Do you not understand that the people living in the worst of American society sometimes cannot work two or three jobs while simultaneously making sure that their kids are attending school, or even needing one of them to stay home to take care of a younger child that does not yet attend school? America doesn't have affordable daycare, if you hadn't noticed. The very basic luxuries I can only assume you've taken for granted your whole life do not apply to the vast majority of poor minority families in America.

Hey guys, Kamala Harris is a woman of colour, I'm pretty sure she's aware of the existence of systemic discrimination based on both gender and race. Do you really think a presumably off-the-cuff statement, in lieu of a detailed proposal for an enforceable law, should be taken as evidence that she wants to promote white supremacy?

All the people bitching about how we're in the worst timeline are loving stupid. Considering the circumstances of 2016 we're actually in the best case scenario:

-Abuela loses but is able to hide the fact that she owns slaves to a popular vote victory, meaning there's reason to for worthless children to bitch and whine that :qq: she'd have won if the rules were different :qq:. If she'd have narrowly squeaked it out Trump would still be disputing the election, meaning we'd have an illegitimate president given our systems.
-Due to that Trump comes in with historically low approval ratings for a new president, meaning there's no grace period nor any real mandate for the party to follow. The same would have been said for Abuela, but without full control of Congress the excuses would be flying out of everyone's mouth.
-Trump's ineffective for his first six months with no real policy wins and in-fighting among his staff. Damage is kept to a minimum, as opposed to what a Ted Cruz presidency could have looked like. Abuela would be the same way; we'd still be at eight Supremes and motions of impeachment would be coming out of the House on a weekly basis. It's also reasonable to assume that her Cabinet would mostly be unfilled as every nominee is shot down.
-The GOP wasn't prepared to actually have to try and overturn Obamacare and with the unexpected sweep in gov control had to rush to try and get something across the goal line, only to suffer a massive own goal instead that'll have ramifications down the line from the voters and more importantly the donors. Abuela in charge means Ryan/McConnell get to obstruct and kick the can down the road to 2020 (whether they're prepared by then is a whole other deal but they'd have a better shot at being prepared by then).
-An Abuela victory hides how worthless the centrist dems really are and gives them reason to shout down the leftists. Taking such a massive L means the dems can move to the left if they can stop being fundamentally worthless for just two seconds. It's the very definition of taking a painful short term loss for significant long term gains if only they're not the dumbest piles of poo poo in existence.

We're better off today with President Trump in charge and we have the potential to be significantly better off down the line. People who don't realize this are blind to reality and should be cast aside like the filth they are.
I can't agree more. Now the dems can be purified.

They know, they understand, they consciously choose to perform otherwise in some political character or other while characterizing a politics derived from interpersonal relationships rooted in material conditions as "unserious" somehow and they will never ever actually tell you what they support in earnest even if you give them half a dozen chances to explain such in an open ended fashion because that isn't the point to their conception of civics.

On another matter,

quote:

Attorney General Kamala Harris has laughed her way out of the good graces of California's marijuana industry. In turn, some of the state's weed players are now backing the AG's Republican challenger.

This is a sea change from four years ago. When Harris was still San Francisco's district attorney, the city's cannabis establishment threw her a fundraiser in a posh SoMa apartment. Then, attendees say, she was approachable and sympathetic.

But since ascending to Sacramento, Harris has been bad on drug reform, weed advocates say, and has shut herself off from her old city's legal marijuana industry. The last straw was this summer, when the attorney general laughed off questions about her support for marijuana legalization.

I'm not saying she can't pursue or promote racists policies, I'm saying she can't, herself, be racist. Those are two different things. because then, the racist status quo which grinds minorities to dust is justifiable to maintain as long as:

1) you're a leader but you don't know that you're doing a racism
2) you're a follower and the leader demands you do a racism

tada! racist institutions are now populated entirely by nonracists! it's magic!

Kamala Harris wrote a book called Smart On Crime.

Transcribed from page 131

quote:

A lot of people told me not to take on this issue. They said the problem was too big to address and that there were no political benefits to wading into these waters. Frankly my staff winced at my plan. But, I started making phone calls and setting up meetings.

I went to the super intendent of the San Francisco Unified School District, and she convened a meeting with all the principals and administrators in the city. The room was packed. I shared with them how much I honor teachers and my gratitude for Mrs. Frances Wilson. I explained that I'm a proud product of the California public schools.

But then I got to the heart of the matter--- that a child going without an education is tantamount to a crime. And so, I said,
"I've decided to prosecute parents for truancy."
The audience erupted. Half of the audience sneered and were visibly upset; the other half clapped and cheered out loud.

To many, this sounded radical. I was threatening the status quo. I knew that some teachers felt a sincere concern that law enforcement could not solve this problem, while others had accepted that the status quo on truancy was accepted at some level. But my position is we owe every child an education and we owe ourselves the addional inoculation against violence and crime that fighting truancy can bring.

The next thing I did was send out letter to every San Francisco parent with a child in public school, explaining that truancy is a crime and that I was prepared to begin prosecuting parents whose children were habitually truant.

That touched off a number of different reactions. On the lighter side, the parents least like to need that letter saw a chance to use it to their advantage. A friend called me, laughing, to say that when his wife opened the letter she called the children in and said, "Do you see this? This is from Kamala and if you don't go to school every single day, she's going to put you and me in jail!"

But what happened next was that principals who were routinely making calls to parents of truant children and never getting them returned had a new tool. Now, they could say, "Mrs. Green, we've been trying to reach you to discuss little Johnny. I do want you to know that our District Attorney has announced that she is going to start prosecuting parent who are not making sure their children are in school."

Those phone calls started to get returned.

Next, we set up what we call District Attorney Meditations. We sat down with the school district to identify students who were most chronically absent. I assigned prosecutors to go to meetings at schools between administrators and parents of truant children, and I encouraged them to look as stern as they could. Suddenly, the principals didn't just have to rely on convincing parents to take seriously the downside of not getting their children to school. There was a prosecutor sitting their glowering at them. There was the threat of prosecution.
