Aha. I get this. But wouldn’t you expect a policy like this to be implemented if we were to ever get our poo poo together domestically? I had to get sign off from a trade union when I got my residence permit last year. I was glad they vouched for my contract.

The episode would have been about Bill falling into a MAGA cult of other fat, insecure, white men, and the gang will have to drag him out of it. Bill will be joined by Hank's boss and the B plot will be Hank having to deal with voting for Republicans in 2016. The turning point of the show would be Hank explaining the weight, power, and sanctity of the vote or something to Bill. At the end, it shows Hank agonizing in the booth before ending up leaving the president blank and casting the ballot. They'll ask him how he chose and he'll say he chose to vote or something else.

Maybe I am biased by having gone through a work visa process in Sweden, but requiring companies to pay imported workers a fair wage is a good thing. Promotes talent domestically and helps workers who are getting visas.

I think a reasonable approach is to make policy that allows the nation to reap the benefits of immigration while also realizing that there will be losers of this immigration policy and to enact proactive measures that mitigate these loses. Unfortunately, the pro-immigration side only references the positive aspects of immigration while the anti side only cites the negatives.

I don't think Hank would leave it blank, they had a whole episode on how important not missing voting is. He might vote Johnson but would probably realize Christie is right "you're having fish or chicken", vote for Hillary, and not tell anyone. Hank values adults acting like adults and common sense.

I can end ALL illegal immigration in one sentence: Jail employers of undocumented workers.

I have no idea why the Democratic party's line is not: "businesses are abusing these desperate workers, and driving down YOUR wages. We need to send a message that people have worth, and they can't treat them like garbage and take money off of YOUR dinner table. It's time to shoot employers in the loving facego after corrupt businesses"

Fully open borders would be absolutely ideal, but obviously that's not going to happen.

I think what they really need to do with H1-B visas is allow portability. The visa is tied to the job, which means if you lose the job, you lose the visa. Which means, basically, you're a slave. Because you worked really hard and don't want to the third world country you came from. So you accept getting poo poo on by your boss for 1/3 the wage. And the local talent can't compete because they don't want to be slaves. If you could take your H1-B visa and it just stayed valid for 5 years and automatically renews if you've maintained employment... then these guys that come over for tech work would have essentially the same bargaining power as local workers. Which is better for them, AND better for the local workers.

Yeah, that's the real problem with the H1B right now.

A) The immigrant workers have no leverage because their options are 1) work for whatever the employer is offering or 2) lose the visa.

B) The entrenched workers lose a lot of leverage because they can be badly undercut because of A).

The only people who stand to benefit in the current system are corporations. Which, honestly, shouldn't be a surprise.
