Part of FIA's problem is they feel they have to justify costs to race in the "pinnacle of racing" as "IT'LL HELP WITH ROAD CARS" (see F1 and LMP1).

downhill off camber double apex? we should run spa-francorchamps backwards. The FIA and ACO come up with the ideas in accord with the manufacturers (including active and potential ones) so the rules are what the group as a whole want. Until somebody changes their mind or isn't smart enough to build a better mousetrap, or - in the Porsche case - when the guy that was excited about this leaves and the new execs don't like racing at this budget level, then you get what we saw. Everything coming forward as "rules" has been agreed by manufacturers and governing bodies. It's literally their own fault if manufacturers don't like the result.

LMP1's rules [including the rules coming for 2020] were made with VAG in the room. They knew what they wanted, and ACO basically wrote the 2020 ruleset to pander to Porsche and their drive towards more electricity in their car lineup. Porsche deciding that it's too expensive and not fair is a cop-out of the highest degree [the real reason is further cutbacks at VAG as more cars are deemed to have cheated emissions tests by governments, this time including Porsches]. Having said that LMP1 was meant to be the cream of the crop. If DPi wants that status they're gonna have to drop a bunch of the restrictions and that's going to mean that a bunch of the teams are going to drop out eventually as the price to be competitive rises. I still think the ACO goes into crisis mode, holds talks with Toyota and Peugeot and finds a way to make LMP1 cheaper, gets Peugeot to commit short term and keeps trundling on. LMP1 will move down to be closer to the level of DPi and LMP2. Is that a bad thing? No. France gets a bit more national pride when Toyota Gazoo Racing inevitably Toyota and Gazoo's it's way out of winning next year, they might snag another manufacturer to take it up and European Sports Car fans get to pretend IMSA doesn't exist for another 5-6 years. The BTCC had a good day of racing at the weekend, and the results went exactly the right way to make it even closer at the top. Sutton is looking like a serious contender for the title and The Plato tears will be glorious

Yeah the solution is "get Peugeot to hurry the gently caress up for even half of 2019 while Toyota races privateers," but that may not happen. DPi is a wonderful thing at a good price for IMSA but it's not the solution for the WEC for P1.

Part of the problem is a lot of people assume DPi is a replacement for LMP1 when in reality IMSA has been very clear about the fact that they're supposed to be competing with LMP2 cars in terms of lap times. They haven't got the BoP right with the Caddies, but it's getting better. Though if Rebellion were still around in IMSA we'd probably be talking them picking up a win by this point.

https://www.reddit.com/r/USCR/comments/6qwano/a_little_something_interesting_going_together_at/ Someone on Reddit got a hold of a Panoz GTR-1 and is doing something with it. I'm kinda surprised because Panoz has always been notoriously tight-fisted with their race cars, so I have no clue how he got his hands on a GTR-1. E: nevermind he works for Elan Motorsports so he's probably restoring it for a museum display. orange juche fucked around with this message at 04:50 on Aug 2, 2017 |

World Rallycross potentially adding an electric class in 2020 because manufacturers are asking for it. Mostly mentioning this because the article says the FIA have a rule saying internal combustion cars can't race against electric cars which seems incredibly stupid.

I slowly watching the Spa race while doing other poo poo in the evenings. I saw similar examples of most of the cars when they took on Bathurst earlier in the year. I love the Bentleys in the flesh and I'm really impressed with the way they seem to take on races. They're always close to the top and seem to stay out of trouble a lot of the time to bank fairly decent times a majority of the time. The BMW's do better overseas than they did at Bathurst where most of them met either a wall or mechanical failure during the race. Same thing tends to happen to a majority of the Audi's come to think of it.

I still love the story about the Dauer 962s. Dauer: "This is totally a street-legal grand touring car" FIA: "Then why does it look like a Porsche 962" Dauer: "Because it is a street legal, grand touring 962" FIA: "Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck" Porsche: "GOT 'EM!"

The Dauer 962 is a very rare example of a car initially designed for racing being turned into a road car.

Let's see... There's some people are thinking that when the Ford GT program ends, Ford is going to do a DPi program. That's who I think it is at first thought. Other makers: Toyota wants Le Mans, so unlikely? Nissan, GM, Honda, and Mazda are all accounted for. VAG DPi? Maybe Audi? e: or maybe Mercedes, though they have F1 they're stomping in so doubt it. iospace fucked around with this message at 00:48 on Aug 5, 2017 |
