SQUEAK! SQUEAK! SQUEAK!
my boss has been slowly buying those extra-wide monitors for our department with spare job money. we all have one now I think. they seem goofy at first but they're really nice for viewing cad drawings and stuff, and they give a lot of workspace for only having 2 monitors.

this was me up until a month ago, they finally got us all new 19" widescreens but they're still on vga to dvi converters because they use a splitter to attach 2 monitors to one dvi port so they don't have to buy us new video cards

if its those dell ones

you can get them in dvi. they're literally $8 on amazon

our IDM team has had projects on the books each year since 2012 to stand up the replacement system and finally sunset this one. only last year did the new one get stood up, and they're way loving far behind on migrations to it. whenever they begin asking us to list risks or issues on a project, i call them out specifically as one. And I'm never wrong.

oh hey i'm getting flashbacks to my old job, where they let replacing an ancilliary system wait for so long that everyone who knew how the first one had been set up retired, and everyone who knew how to use it left

you could replace the whole thing with an open source product (like, there are multiple open source projects that would do that, nevermind commercial option) with a couple weeks of data entry, because the only efficient way to port data out of the old system is to print it to paper and retype

but the last guy who knew that left a long time back lol

That just seems slightly better than average for getting any group of people to use any given teleconferencing software.

people who have one or two questions to ask but instead of emailing someone for an answer, insist on having an in-person meeting where they will take up the full 30 minutes because thats how long they booked the room for

hangouts meet is good but it's annoying how integrating things like dial-in into it requires enterprise plans that google won't sell to smaller organisations, or subscribing to a third party service that is poo poo. it's one of the few g suite things that doesn't have apis that anyone can use.
