It took them a while and it never completely fixed the odd behavior (it just became less common and/or less noticeable). But yeah, they even wrote a blog post about it back in the day: http://www.teamfortress.com/post.php?id=3368 quote:Throughout Team Fortress 2's years-long release and update cycle, many people have asked us, "Seriously, how could you guys not have fixed that yet?" The majority of these queries are directed to TF2 animator Matthew Russell, who is technically responsible for fixing this kind of thing, and most of them pull no punches. "Is it because Matthew Russell is too stupid to fix it? Why would Valve even hire someone with a horseshoe-shaped divot in their skull?" is an email we see a lot. "Does Matthew Russell have a disease that makes him lazy?" is another popular one. An astonishing number of them are simply a .jpeg of Google Maps with Matt's house ominously circled. The rest could be summed up as a long, unbroken string of expletives and grammatically questionable racial slurs.

Isn't there some goon who still gets a two dollar check for every new madden release because they're still reusing a few lines of his code from the original?

All the videos I did find largely drowned out the OVERTIME with random voice chat. Edit: Some of the best griefing was done with glitches. The pyro sticking multiple flares in the wall so it would overload people with smoke particles, clipping through the floor or ceiling to build a sentry where it can't be shot, building teleporter exits in places where people going through would get stuck/trapped, there was even one on one map that could jam the spawn room exit halfway open so nobody could leave. m2pt5 has a new favorite as of 03:55 on Aug 8, 2017 |

Matt of Super Best Friends Play fame started a new series called The Bug Report. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l1SFKPvodYI It's glitches and bugs but sort of a light review at the same time. He has a background in Q&A so some of that insight as well. I'm biased since I like him (and SBFP) but I reckon it's an alright video.

Frankly, I'm not sure what's still being used. When I was at UCF I did some contract work for them (Tiburon at the time) and wrote a bunch of physics optimizations. I assume one is still relevant. Literally my only work in the games industry.

# ? Aug 9, 2017 14:34 |

How is it that a programmer (especially a contractor) gets residuals for the work they did? I would have thought that any work you would have done becomes the property of the company you do it for which means they could reuse it freely. Was it a clause in your contract?
|
# ? Aug 9, 2017 21:36 |

I worked as a sub for an contracting firm. My contract was with them, there's was with Tiburon. I get a percentage of any payment they receive for projects I worked on. I still get paid on new licenses for a healthclub management software that I worked on in the early 90s. I assumed they had worked out the best deal possible, but I'm not privy to what it actually was. Frankly, so don't even have a copy of my agreement with them anymore, so they could be screwing me out of millions! (I don't actually believe that.)

Hi Synthetik I can confirm I am a law... guy? and I know for a fact they're screwing you out of millions now just sign this contract and we can get right on reclaiming those millions.
