It's just so wrong on its face. As if living in prewar buildings in upscale neighborhoods isn't also insanely expensive.

michael grimm says he wants to primary challenge dan donovan. is grimm doing that for ideological "never work with the other side" reasons, or is he doing it because he's just that full of himself?

I have this nagging feeling that Cuomo and his camp are going to try to make a connection between Cynthia and Richard Nixon. It's an extremely stupid idea and would require a complete detachment from reality to think it could work, which is exactly why I think the Dems would try it.

if you thought the anti-de blasio narrative was powerful before, holy poo poo get ready for everyone and your mother to think BDB is the devil himself cause he's going to try to tax the rich to pay for the subways (lmao) quote:Mr. de Blasio will announce a so-called millionaires tax on Monday for wealthy New York City residents to pay for subway and bus upgrades and for reduced fares for some riders, an idea that has been successful in Seattle. after Uber showed that a minor media spend could completely trash a mayor, i dont think this has a snowballs chance of succeeding, but i do think it guarantees BDB getting hosed the black husserl has issued a correction as of 20:39 on Aug 6, 2017 |

I love that than the solution is to continue to let our mass transit infrastructure crumble because it's not like it's one of the most important things to the city that makes it habitable

deBlasio sucks but taxing the rich who disproportionately benefit from having a functional subway is absolutely what has to be done. Throw all the lovely subway ads out too while we're at it.

it's a good start, but the real problem is the godawful set-up of the MTA that allows and encourages the appointment of know-nothing cronies by the governor. cuomo wasn't the first to use the agency as his own slush fund and he won't be the last if this prevents two more fare hikes in 2019 and 2021, though, i'll be content

# ? Aug 6, 2017 21:14 |

One of the advantages of a ConCon would be forcing the MTA to be funded a minimum amount via state taxes. Also classifying all tax breaks as corruption.

LA actually tried to do the naming rights for stations thing but they shut it down after their lawyers told them they wouldn't be able to reject bids for political reasons (like, they couldn't stop Hobby Lobby from buying rights because of their anti-choice stance) apparently it's because of the first amendment

Why would you have naming rights for a station? The name should be the drat location. Badger of Basra posted:also who was the last mayor that the nyc press hated as much as deblasio? dinkins? Sounds about right and provably both for the same reason cause I've never heard Right Wingers in NYC complain about him that didn't start off with the fact his wife is black and bi-sexual

I'm honestly not bothered by corporate sponsored subway stations? I mean, its Adopt-A-Highway for mass transit mostly. It's fine. Let them sell their ads or a plaque honoring whatever corporate donor they want. It's laughable that people think it will actually fix anything; but hey, if it raises 100m out of the billion needed, why say no?

it's also bad because it's basically admitting that the city (and government as a whole) is unable to function in its most basic role of providing public transportation for its citizens, requiring the private sector to step in and save the day

CaptainPsyko posted:I'm honestly not bothered by corporate sponsored subway stations? In addition to what has been said here, it also makes the subway less convenient. Deducing where the 86th Street Station on the Lexington line is allows someone who is on the UES for some reason to easilly get to the subway station that is close by. Good luck remembering where the pantsonhead.com station off the Coca-Cola section of the American Airlines line is.
