i think hurdle has marte leading off these days, which depresses his value. hell, i'm not sure i see much daylight between marte and maybin at this point.

i'd take broxton. highest power upside. i also don't believe starling's power is ever going to come. i certainly don't think he has the power upside broxton does. marte will probably steal more, though.

also, starling doesn't walk, so he won't help your obp that much.

I have one of the stranger keeper decisions I've ever had in fantasy sports. I have to whittle this list down to 10:

(My only pitching keepers would likely be Lester and Alex Reyes)

Abreu, Bryant, Segura, Bellinger, and Pollock are all slam dunk easy ones.

I spent a waiver on Odor, because a 2B that hits 30 hr has got to be valuable, right? Even with a sub .700 OPS? I don't even know how that's possible, but I can't imagine that happening again next year? Could it?

I also traded for Santana, who I think has a ton of upside and has shown he's mostly figured it out? Or just a one-year flash?

Cruz is older than dirt but still hitting bombs?

Broxton could go 25/40, or he could be in the minors?

Is David Dahl or Michael Taylor for real?

Is Eric Thames for real?

Is CarGo well and truly dead?

e: This is an OPS league where there is no penalty for keepers. They are your first 10 picks.

abreu, bryant, cruz, thames, santana, bellinger, pollock, dahl, broxton, reyes

odor got figured out, taylor is still a mystery though i'm intrigued, lester's velocity is down, flowers who knows, segura's power isn't enough, gonzalez is done and will likely be out of colorado next year, polanco i can't figure out so i just avoid

Good read.

Disagree on Odor. I haven't delved too deep, but something about that power potential just draws me in.

Same on Taylor. Good to know about Lester. Maybe he's not as safe to keep as I thought, but goddamn keeping 1 pitcher (coming off TJS at that) would be scary/hilarious. Flowers was a total stopgap, not considered for keeping. Segura's power... poo poo. You're probably right about that.

Same same same about Polanco. Could be 20/25, could be 10/15 and just be meh.

This is what I mean. I am utterly stuffed with guys with so much potential, but which ones to keeeeeeeep...

e: Out of curiosity, why Dahl? And would you keep him over Thames?

IcePhoenix

Take me to your Shida

I'm the idiot that's probably still going to keep Buxton in that league

Also I wouldn't keep Thames, he's fallen off hard. July was good but he still struck out more than three times as much as he walked (and his BABIP was very high that month).

Cameron Maybin has like a .700 ops and is getting way more walks than usual in his career. He's waiver wire trash.

Marte's got like 120 at bats so far this season his stats will come along sometime before the season ends. Same with Broxton I bet. I could see him swing for contact more because his most valuable asset is his legs not his 18ish HR power.

A greater tragedy my eyes have never beheld
I drafted Broxton and held on to him before he got demoted because he was one of my few base stealers. I'm probably going to pick him up again for the exact same reason

except his discipline has improved, he's hitting in front of the best hitter in the game, his batted ball profile has drastically improved, and he has taken walks before. i see that and think he's eyeing the ball well and setting himself up to succeed.

marte, on the other hand, is a slap-singles hitter at this point who, despite an insane babip and hitting cleanup for a significant part of last season, took a huge step back in power and hasn't shown improvement this season. he's like 200th in average exit velocity. last season's average: 86.3mph. this season: 81.7mph.

Maybin is a limited 30 year old that can be defined as SAGNOF for his counting stats so far. I like his run total for the amount of at bats he has but you can sort of find that on the waiver too. Like I just cut Ian Kinsler and he's having a better season than Maybin so far for 5 cat purposes.

Marte's looking like trash right now, I agree, but I'm saying it's because he had a long break from baseball due to the PED suspension. Dude's seriously got less than half the at bats as Maybin and has a four year track record as a 10/30 guy. He'll turn it around soon.

Kind of.

It seems like Sogard's magic has worn off and he's out of options though, so maybe he gets his starting role back next year and picks it back up? Like I said, I would only consider it if there's no cost and you can't come up with a good name for the last spot or something.

Yeah there's no cost. You must keep 10 players, and they are your first 10 picks of the draft. It's dynasty-lite.

I grabbed Villar in case he did show signs of turning it around, but uh... he's not.

With Pollock, Broxton, and Segura (potentially), the team would have a huge amount of speed. Even Bellinger is fast (reportedly the fastest player on the Dodgers?)

One other wrinkle, I'm almost certainly going to finish in 2nd to last this year. Which means that I would have 2nd pick in the draft, so it's almost being able to keep 11.

Oh right. Well likely a high pick in any event. Though the way my luck has been this season, I'll likely land the 12th pick. :D

For those of you who have been in continuous leagues - do you have that one guy you just cannot trade with?

Like there's some kind of hangup where the two of you are almost speaking different languages.

Because I have that guy and it has been 10 loving years.

VVV: Ditto. I have a couple that I don't think I've ever gotten anything done with or even attempted (or received any offers from them). The one guy I'm talking about though...just a whole lot of nothing. Ever. Every trade I have ever sent has sat there until it timed out or I canceled it. A decade straight of a whole lot of nothing. I don't even know if he has ever made a trade with anyone now that I think about it.
