If they're identical except for a bit of programming could it be changed so Data had emotions?

Jeb! Repetition posted:If they're identical except for a bit of programming could it be changed so Data had emotions? I'm not sure what our policy on spoilers is with Jeb!, so I'll spoiler block it, even if I'll try and be vague about details: the two of them are not entirely identical; Lore is running a slightly older/different OS or whatever, so he can't just flip a switch and give Data emotions. He'd need some custom hardware that Lore has that Data lacks.

Reminder that Lore was last seen floating in space and is now wearing a Pakled uniform. Not hard to figure out what happened, the only question is how many Pakleds got murdered.

Why would Lore want two emotion processors though. What would that even do.

Jeb! Repetition posted:Why would Lore want two emotion processors though. What would that even do. I don't think it would do anything, really, Soong is just worried that putting an extra one inside Lore could gently caress him up. As for the Why of it? Little bit of gently caress-you-dad, little bit of "I deserve to be fixed so that I don't give off this disturbing vibe".

Lore is a total rear end in a top hat, but man, if you were told by your father that a) you're broken b) can be fixed c) he's dying so, so sorry but it ain't happening? You'd have some sort of emotional making GBS threads-the-bed. I really love Spiner's delivery of "Why didn't you just fix me?". Probably not "see how far I can throw Daddy", but man.
