I don't disagree but lol, there's a not insignificant number of these types on Something Awful, what makes you think Google would take a hard stand? I realize we forget this because D&D is fairly left-wing but go to GBS and bask in the Trump support. These type of people disproportionately inhabit the internet and Google probably doesn't want to deal with the inevitably DDOS attacks that would ensue.

there are still occasionally events that feature torches, but those are pretty rare and don't involve running through the city like a bunch of nazis. some ski clubs have traditions where they do a long trek through the snow at night with torches, and sometimes even positive demonstrations feature candles and torches, like the monday demonstrations against the GDR regime.

Marching with torches is pretty standard fare here in Scandinavia for anything happening at night. Frankly, you don't have much choice when it gets dark at 4pm.

Charlottesville resident checking in. I'm working today but my office is 2 blocks away from the park where the poo poo is going down. Here's hoping all the shitheads get arrested. Mood at the farmer's market this morning (also about 2 blocks away): grim but determined. Lot of sort of tentative smiles and people huddling up.

A .99999~ = 1 thing. Like, sure, I'll think you're profoundly stupid to hold racist beliefs but to chant actual Nazi poo poo doesn't strike anyone as an odd choice at all. Who roots for the most universally hated losers of all time? It's the same question I have about the Confederacy, and I grew up in the South. Who picks a loser and goes whole hog on it? And not just a "we lost last year" kind of loser but literally "so reprehensible we were wiped off the map" loser. I want to unironically love the poo poo out of my country again in the company of other adults, but I can't because we caught a loving case of the fascists. I can't even use "Make America Great Again" when it really needs to be employed because goddamn weirdos beat me to it.

When career employees of the Environmental Protection Agency are summoned to a meeting with the agency’s administrator, Scott Pruitt, at agency headquarters, they no longer can count on easy access to the floor where his office is, according to interviews with employees of the federal agency. Doors to the floor are now frequently locked, and employees have to have an escort to gain entrance. Some employees say they are also told to leave behind their cellphones when they meet with Mr. Pruitt, and are sometimes told not to take notes. Mr. Pruitt, according to the employees, who requested anonymity out of fear of losing their jobs, often makes important phone calls from other offices rather than use the phone in his office, and he is accompanied, even at E.P.A. headquarters, by armed guards, the first head of the agency to ever request round-the-clock security. https://www.nytimes.com/2017/08/11/...pruitt-epa.html

I almost wish people would stop poking the loving hornet's nest with taking down statues or taking down crosses/ten commandments in courtrooms or whatever. Yea, that poo poo probably shouldn't be in those places, but it's more historical than anything and at least depicts the flawed beginnings of this country. Besides, what kind of rear end in a top hat complains about an 80 year old statue? Of all the problems and other poo poo going on in this country, tearing down a loving statue should be a pretty low priority. From a practical standpoint, it will probably cost the school a fuckton of money to deal with all the Nazi assholes congregating around the drat thing in addition to all of the construction costs to remove/replace it instead of just leaving it out in the cold to weather and slowly devolve into an unrecognizable hunk of stone/metal. "Well, guess we can't clean out all of the jizz in the pipes from the male dorm room showers this year because the money set aside for that went to statue removal."
