Even I, who loves to pick on the centrists here, will admit that now is not the time to be debating leftists vs centrists. When (hell, if) we have primaries for 2018, we can have the argument then. Until then, we need to all present a united front against fascism. There's a very good part of that Dan Harmon rant, which is don't even bother engaging with them. I made the mistake of trying to argue in GBS with a few of the MAGA chuds and it's just not even worth the minimal effort. They're not speaking in good faith, don't even bother engaging.

I think that the president personally flip-flopping mixed with a right-wing media getting a few days to use its narrative has turned a lot of the moderate right to supporting the Nazi violence. They are not taking ownership like they were before and, while politicians are still condemning it, people I unfortunately used to associated with seem to be falling for it. It also seems to be the case and more and more Facebook memes blaming the left are propagating. As well as Imgur and Twitter. I think the president's inability to condemn white supremacist and turned back to supporting them today and go so far as to blame the left the violence has led to the right accepting that as the new message and most of them seem on board. I'm quoting because I said that the backlash might die down soon which is horrifying to think that someone dying only managed to keep it for a few days. Now, while there still seems to be media and political backsplash, looks like the public is no longer going for it and it's which direction when it comes to the right wing. Add this on top of the doj trying to get information on protesters and the fact that those who heroically destroyed that statue got arrested today while the ones who savagely beat that man are still walking free and it just sinks in how much we're losing.

To anyone who isn't that dumbfuck Kilroy, I think you can pretty easily figure out the legal reasons why a public official cannot send out a message saying "Go out and punch Nazis in the face" if they are in a position where that could be legally proven to be be directing people to do it. Do any Antifa actually feel that way? Like, they see people like Sanders or Hillary or Tom Perez praising all people standing up to Nazis, and feel insulted they specifically didn't get praised? Or do they understand they are a part of those who oppose white supremacists and take the praise as its intended? Its a big group, I know, but have there been any people speaking out saying "where's our praise?"

Likewise, New York Times isn't just "a paper that publishes conservative stuff sometimes," even their liberal contributors write remarkably awful stories and headlines and they were the leading light of the "liberal papers establishing their credentials as nonpartisan media by making GBS threads on Hillary Clinton" movement last year. We're not talking about elected representatives, we're talking about corporate media that would love nothing more than to crush anyone to the left of Mitt Romney.

It breaks my heart that my next door neighbor, a naturalized WW2 Royal Air Force pilot who battled his way across the skies of Europe, thinks the violence was Black Lives Matter's fault for going to Virginia looking for a fight. I got a pretty good spiel out contrasting a group that wants to not get shot by the police is not equivalent to a group that wants to kill every non-white on the planet, but he just asked me if I was making things up, and then shrugged and said we'd have to have differing opinions. I'm a thirty four year old man, I shouldn't have thought I was living next to a super hero, but I guess I always did. Listening to him blame those "young blacks" for killing Heather Hayer was really painful.
