I remember how the "I'm a Mac and I'm a PC" ads kinda sorta backfired because David Mitchell was playing the PC and came off too sympathetically while Robert Webb played the Mac as a :smug: tosser.

I never saw those, I only saw the original ones with Justin Long as the Mac and John Hodgman as the PC.

But even then, it felt like they were literal representatives, like Microsoft sent John Hodgman to represent them, and Apple chose Justin Long. The fact that we were supposed to unilaterally side with the smarmy douche of the obviously uncool, but practical, nerd pretty much galvanized me against Apple for a long time. I wish it hadn't, because if I had a macbook now, most of the poo poo I wanted to do would be way easier/.

Yeah those ads put me off Apple for a real long time. Now I love them and have had MacBooks for forever but I admit I may switch when my current one breaks due to their great new penchant for taking away a bunch of ports I use literally every day

Been a Mac user since 2002 but I bought a Thinkpad this year because the new keyboards are garbage. Also I thought John Hodgman was clearly the sympathetic one in the ads. Who the hell likes Justin Long.

Amazon, head and shoulders, continues to be the best delivery platform for premium channels.

I subscribed to Starz though it for American Gods and was floored by the image quality.

I've used it with Showtime the past few weeks to catch up on twin peaks even though Verizon is giving me Showtime free right now because it's that much better looking.

Tonight, I decided to compare HBO through Amazon vs HBO Go since I'm subcribed through cable right now. Even though HBO Go has always been the best looking out of all of the premium streaming apps, there's still no contest. HBO through Amazon thoroughly stomps on HBO Go quality. Guess I'll be cancelling it with Verizon and doing Amazon here on out.

It's also a hell of a lot easier to cancel and re-add based on what's on.

You know, if CBS teamed up with Amazon to deliver all access as an Amazon channel, I would actually consider subscribing when Discovery is on.

I wish I could get all my channels this way. I hate watching cable now due to how muddy it looks.

Well Amazon does own and run most of the servers that everybody else uses for their streaming services, I wouldn't be surprised if they prioritize their own traffic.

It's not a matter of traffic prioritization, they are clearly different encodes. It's even more apparent with Showtime as Showtime doesn't even have 5.1 audio streams on their platform apps whereas streaming through Amazon does.

Amazon is really great for shows. I find that their movies library is somewhat hit or miss. Some movies have fine resolution but are strangely much darker than they should be. There are also movies that are not actually available in HD, such as Tarsem Sing's The Cell, which is like a bad DVD rip.

Like most of the things porn sites post this is just a publicity stunt. I doubt that xHampster has the money that it would take to make another season of Sense8.

Funny stunt though.

Yeah, the UI leaves much to be desired. I bypass it by using the web to add things to my watchlist. That simplifies things a lot.

I suspect that Amazon does h265 to any client that supports it (basically anything that is capable of streaming UHD) while the native solutions from the premium channels only do h264 since they don't want to manage compatibility on a device level. That would account for the quality difference.

Not enough to gamble 80 million on a gambit that, at most, would get press coverage and maybe $10000 of ad revenue.

poo poo Yahoo! couldn't make Community profitable, and I'd wager that more people watched season 6 than would ever watch season 3 of Sense8.

I mean, as someone that wishes almost everyday for a second season of The Middleman or Clone High, I understand being excited at the prospect of a beloved cancelled show getting another chance, no matter how unlikely it seems. But porn websites have a habit of doing silly publicity stunts to try and steal traffic from one another, and even when it's things that are actually feasible they don't actually happen (link SFW).

Oh, this bodes well for Inhumans:

Dark Horizons posted:

There have been complaints that ABC’s “Marvel’s Inhumans” series looks cheap. Turns out there’s a reason for that.

Roel Reine (“Death Race 2,” “Hard Target 2”), who directed the first two episodes of the series which will premiere in IMAX in two weeks, spoke with CNET about his involvement and says a big reason he was hired was he could do the work quickly and cheaply:

“I think they liked me for the job because I was able with my action movies to shoot in a very short time, or with very low budgets, action that looks like a big-budget movie. The schedule was super-tight. I had TV schedule time to shoot it with IMAX cameras, 20 days to shoot two episodes. It’s nerve-wracking but I come from a low-budget film world, so 20 days for me is luxury.”

Reine also says Marvel was strict about continuity and had an executive on hand at all times to keep an eye on things:

“There was always a Marvel executive around me, just to make sure that whatever I did, or whatever we did together, would tie in with other characters in other universes, in other comics, in other series or movies. They’re very protective. These people are very passionate about their product and about characters and about doing the best version of everything.”

Sense8 was so expensive in large part due to the huge international production, you could probably make it for a lot cheaper if you stuck to interiors and greenscreens instead of flying everyone all over the world to show off your Netflix budget.

Not to my eyes, not even close. Showtime had always been bottom tier in streaming quality with their apps behind Starz and HBO.

The rips are likely recodings directly off the c band distribution satellites, before the cable companies have a chance to gently caress with them.
