Yeah that's kinda reductive tbh, like especially if you're discounting brotherhood as just a damage buff. At its core MNK is the job left most intact from 3.5 but there are a couple substantive additions that changes how it plays at 70 quite a bit. The biggest ones are deep meditation and brotherhood which give you a chance to earn chakra in combat turning forbidden chakra into a fairly frequent attack instead of a button you get to push once or twice per encounter. They nerfed its potency in exchange but brotherhooding into a forbidden chakra or two is fun. Also I talked some poo poo about it when SB first came out, but riddle of earth turns into a pretty reliable GL saver in some of the boss fights/trials, most of them have a predictable splash you can capitalize off of during down times. Tackle mastery is, at worst, completely ignorable.

Tackle Mastery basically doesn't exist because you are always going to be in Fists of Fire when you need to use tackle, Fire Tackle is the only one you will ever want to use so basically, that entire trait is just a 30 potency buff for shoulder tackle which is nice but as part of an expansion pack where you don't get too much more than free chakras for the rest of your additions... ZZZZZ

I like MNK and it's doing pretty well. I hit 4.1k DPS on O1S and I'm only 61st percentile so clearly it can go even higher.

I get the feeling I'm going to be here a while, since I pretty much have to do all the sidequests for all of the neat bits of Xaela lore! Wish the one girl in Reunion would actually sell me some buuz though.

Monk chiming in: gameplay is practically unchanged but with 2 new OGCD cooldowns, blood for blood gone, and as people have said you occasionally get to press Forbidden Chakra which is nice but hardly a game changer. I'm happy, I didn't have to learn a new rotation, just a new opener utilising the new cooldowns.

Very cool weapon. And the flower cane that makes a tinkling noise every time you draw your weapon. Always had me laughing when my character would draw it out in cut scenes and the noise still plays.

The biggest change to monk in my opinion is, between Riddle of Fire drastically slowing your attacks and all the extra Chakra stacks you get, it's basically impossible to run out of TP. Which is pretty sweet.

Look for a "Distraught Lass" NPC in Ul'dah, she'll start a small chain that gives you access to the essential-for-big-DPS "Red Mage" suite of abilities

Still chugging away at ARR. My next story quest is fighting Ramuh, who is surprisingly reasonable compared to the others. Then again, Beardman has always been the voice of reason among the Summons. Except in V, where he's just a jerk that attacks you in a forest out of nowhere. Also, I finish the Hildibrand Quest. Godbert.
