There's other stuff, but I wasn't actively looking for it. It's obvious a bunch of workers were just trying to get it all done as fast as possible. There's 5 buildings where she lives, 6 apartments each floor, 32 floors each building. 6 X 32 X 5 = 960 apartments that needed to be done with some wacky deadline. This also explains why so many apartments in China are remodeled after purchase, besides people hating the floor plans but buying anyway. Her other house is practically unrecognizable if you compare it before she got it remodeled.

And if people want it done right do they need to get people from America or Europe or somewhere else to do it right?

I was just downstairs buying a piece of cake, since who knows if I can go outside during the typhoon tomorrow. I'm holding my tray of treats and waiting to pay and some lady with two toddlers is standing in front of me and arguing with the cashier. She wants a plastic bag. The girl can't give her the plastic bag because she is not a customer and didn't buy anything. The woman wants the bag and doesn't want to pay for it. They are arguing while some other girl comes up and starts playing phone, no items to buy.
The dad connected with the arguing mom is watching this stupid scene, and decides for absolutely no reason to walk into me with my tray. He literally just walked right into me and I had to take a step back so I wouldn't drop my stuff. It was pure unnecessary face bullshit, the kind that makes you instantly angry because it has no other purpose than to give the doer of the action a little smirk. Holding my tray, I used my free elbow to shove him with it to provoke him. He took a step to the side, turned around and stared at me. I raised my eyebrows at him, saying "sup?" He walked out of the bakery and then his wife snatched a plastic bag from the cashier and they were all gone in the blink of an eye. I loving hate that kind of poo poo, and it's so China. I just want to go out and get a snack, not have some idiot get into an imaginary dick waving contest with me just because I exist.

The cake was good, but they ran out of matcha cheesecake and that's what I was looking for. Sad.

I have no idea. I don't think anyone would do that. I don't know how that would even be legal to do construction work here. Even if it was possible, Chinese would never put up money for it, and they wouldn't believe it could be done any differently than by the local guys.

TAIPEI: A samurai sword-wielding attacker carrying the national flag of China slashed a military police guard outside Taiwan's presidential office Friday, authorities said.

The Taiwanese man who was arrested at the scene said he was expressing his political views and had stolen the sword from a nearby history museum, police told AFP.
...
"A Chinese national flag was found in his backpack. He said he wanted to express his political stance by going to the presidential office," the official said, adding that the man had wanted to fly the flag there.
...
Local media reported that he had repeatedly left pro-China messages in comment sections online, including praise for the Liaoning, China's only aircraft carrier.

"Wow! So gorgeous ... Cheering on the great China dream!" said a message left in Lu's name under a YouTube video of the Liaoning passing through the Taiwan Strait last month.

The sword he used is carved with the words "Nanjing battle, (this sword) killed 107 people", according to a photo released by police.

“I don’t want to rent to them simply because I do not want any more broken chairs,” he said.
“It is not discrimination.”

I'm not sure if that's the reason for it but comrade is used to mean gay by anyone who isn't old, yeah. Which created a funny situation when the Xi government declared party members have to start calling each other comrades again. It'd be like the president saying everybody has to use gay to mean happy again starting now and don't you dare use it to mean homo stuff!!

So the weather is not bad at all now. The typhoon/cyclone/whatever has passed the area and the winds and rain are way less. Everyone was spreading all these rumors how the Metro is closed all day (parts in HK are, not SZ), or it is closing soon and people can't go home from work (not true), or whatever dumb bullshit they come up with and then immediately repeat as fact to each other. I wanted to go buy lunch and everyone is telling me the trains are closed. One girl told me the train was closed, and she just got home from work. I asked how she got home. By train. Did she hear the trains were closing? No, but her friend in Wechat said.

I googled it and found that only a few portions of the very northern (poor people areas) are closed until the weather settles. It linked me to an article that was pretty good:
http://www.thatsmags.com/shenzhen/post/20261/watch-dash-for-door-sparks-mass-metro-panic

quote:

All it took was one man dashing for the carriage door to spark panic on the Shenzhen metro earlier this week, according to a Tencent News report.

The incident happened at around 9.30pm on August 13, when a man bolted from a metro carriage as the doors opened at Science Museum station. Everyone else on the carriage soon followed suit, clearing the carriage in record time. Thankfully, no one was injured.

This week’s incident happened less than a month after a stampede erupted on a Line 7 train passing through Huanggangcun Station, triggered by a passenger who began running through the carriage for 'unknown reasons.'

After the incident, the train was removed from service and the passengers 'comforted,' according to the report, which ends on a high note, reminding passengers not to blindly follow others in a panic or spread lies.
There's video of it, and it's as dumb as it sounds. I posted a long time ago how I would often see one guy start running for no reason, maybe to the toilet, or because he wanted to get to where he was going faster, and immediately any people surrounding him would start running with him whatever direction he was going. They would give up after 10 or so steps, but I thought it was bizarre how people would immediately flee from imaginary danger.

Grand Fromage posted:

Last year up to Spring Festival (2017), Yuki and Vivi(an) were the two most common names I saw on Wechat or Tantan here. Now I never see either, and I have not paid attention to which idiot name is popular lately.
