Perhaps we need to fight for sweeping reforms by any means necessary, seems like incrementalism would be taking progress for granted that would inevitably stagnate.

Generational shift is actually pretty massive, and most leftwing economic policies have pretty solid bipartisan support. Congress is far to the right of the population.

I think this thread is a very good case study of what is wrong with the left, and why people who advocate for positions we think are good, don't trust us to actually implement those things without killing people, or failing due to ideological purity purges.

gently caress, Obama actually put shitlord extraordinaire [/]Billy Tauzin[/b] (the guy behind the laws that forbid drug reimportation and price haggling for Medicare) in a campaign ad as a symbol of all that was wrong with the system for health care, then called the same scumbag to the White house a dozen times in six months to help craft the ACA before sending him home with a multimillionaire payoff. And when he had to resort to reconcilitiation anyway, he didn't change anything on the bill because dammit, those hucksters won their cash fair and square!

No wonder you guys love incrementalism so much. Each incremental step is another opportunity to collect bribes while changing almost nothing.

i hope so too, but i dunno why he thinks preserving a status quo that is currently grinding people to dust and is only getting worse is something we should be pushing for for the next 8 years of governance

a lot of things were broken in 2008, and people voted for obama to fix that. and he didn't. he let the lobbyist problem get so bad that now lobbyists have more say in the dem party than regular people (as superdelegates), he let the banks run wild, and now pharma companies are jacking up prices on life saving medication that doesn't cost them hardly anything to make. black people are being shot to death by kkk loving cops, and nazis are making a resurgence. on p much every front, obama and the dems have failed us, and we need leadership that's going to stop doing that and actually fix things (and in a hurry too! people can't afford to wait to stop being murdered!)

retreat into nihilistic apathy because he's afraid to give a poo poo. it's a fairly common form of political disengagement after you get burned.

obama's biggest failure was not Donald Trump, it was turning millions of engaged young people into bitter, apathetic, detached shells because the alternative was admitting obama sold them a bill of goods he'd never intended to deliver on

and it's easier to give up on your dreams than give up on your heroes
