Uh, so has the National Guard been mobilized at all?

Let me give you insight into what emergency response for a hurricane goes like at a drill hall:

:chiefsay: Okay, so out of the 45 people we called only five answered their phones or were physically able to show up. Anybody have a boat?

:geno: I have a kayak.
:downs: I brought a pistol, can I go shoot looters?
:geno: I only came here because my apartment is underwater and it's dry.

The Salvation Army is virulently anti-gay. Some time ago I read a blog post by a guy who found himself homeless with his boyfriend and went to the Salvation Army for assistance. They would only help them if they broke up and gave up the gay lifestyle.

Perhaps Mexico will feel generous again. Last time, they sent several hundred service members, helicopters, trucks, and a Navy ship north to engage in search and rescue, first aid, debris cleanup, and food distribution.

Or, perhaps the president will keep tweeting about the border wall.

quote:

Cuba: One of the first countries to offer aid, Cuba offered to send 1,586 doctors and 26 tons of medicine. This aid was rejected by the State Department.[18] Also, before the 2006 World Baseball Classic, Cuba said they would donate their share of the winnings to Katrina victims to ensure the United States embargo against Cuba was not violated. However, after the tournament, the U.S. government refused to allow the donation.

If I remember correctly, the problem isn't Texas being under water. Its the part that is. Houston is apparently one of the most liberal cities in the country and a lot of those costal communities are supposed to be pretty reasonable. All the terrible is in west and rural Texas which isn't going to be erased. No idea if its true, but thats what I have been told.

Houston is only liberal from the point of view of the awful parts of Texas. Austin is the only liberal place in the state, and even Austin is going to have some issues and I worry about my cool Texas friends who live there.

Houston is the least liberal of the Texas cities, everyone there survives based on big oil, and big oil makes sure they all know it.
