Off-topic, but I', hoping one of you can help me: So I'm writing an RPG campaign in the mythic scandinavian iron age. The primary theme will be deconstructing my players dumb notions about the IA such as history channel shows and the like. While there will be dragons, your loving sword+2 will be made of hammered iron is what I'm saying. Now, an essential part of this is brushing off my knowledge on what daily life and technology was like in the iron age, do any of you guys have some good reads or websites I could check out to get a feel of things? I mean, assuming you're actually a movie production company making entertainment and not just donating it to feed kids in Somalia or something. edit: the budget really makes me take notice, because a show about aviation is one of the few places where more, better special effects can really, REALLY make a huge difference in the quality of the final product. You can go low budget with dudes in foxholes and still have a good character story, or go medium budget and have some impressive explosions and whatnot, but dudes flying and dying in airplanes will just look cheesy if you don't step up and lay down some cash to make it look right.

This gave Mayan armies a ridiculous short reach -in Pre-European times, Mayan armies often had difficulties even getting to their next door neighbors. Also, apparently they had serious trouble with food production, anyway: Their history is a sordid history from cities growing until food production can't keep up, followed by total collapse shortly after. Followed then by other cities now growing and expanding, often thanks to survivors of the older cities being integrated and then the same thing happened again! When the first Europeans showed up, they sometimes just walked past ruins of those long dead cities, since the incredibly dense jungle tended to make them disappear in short order. Sometimes the Mayans themselves had lost all knowledge about those places, which didn't help matters either
