Hng. someone on Gumtree is offering an 04 wagon for swaps with a small/mid-size automatic (like say, an '03 IS 300), but it's visually pretty rough and the aircon "needs re-gassing" (aka overhauling and every seal replacing).

Also a 200k KM 2JZ and a 200K KM EJ-T are pretty different stories.

One day though.

Well possibly a wagon with a sunroof might work. But I'll only need one particular piece.... it's a large piece but only one piece required

(drat, I forgot the cup game I've beem playing at the beginning of each post. I had a good cup today as well :/)

Saturday

Not much left on the white wagon to be removed. Today it donated most of hte interior plastics, the roof racks, the roof trims, steering loumn and wiring and roof wiring plus a bunch of small poo poo.

Oh and yeah the exhaust as well. Looks like a good one. Almost done with it

Yellow WRX now back to stock look.

Pod filter covered by air box, stock intercooler on, stokc recirc back in. Forged internals pretty much confirmed..... still a chance of a a big end issue tho.

Sunday

Lining up today's tools required

Annnnd here's my fuckup. I removed the hood lining, thinking it would the the usual cardboard thing Subarus have. Oh gently caress, was I wrong. So, so, so very wrong.

It was in fact glued on in places and the interior lights glued to the sunroof. And this I have nothing even CLOSE to replacement. I have some ugly choices here and all of them suck

a) Make my own headlining.
b) Remove sunroof, weld up hole
c) Just flat out repalce the roof.

On a sedan replacing the roof is viable as it's bonded. It's not quite that easy on a wagon by the looks of it. The roof is jsut a bit more complex to remove and replace. Removing the sunroof is also tricky as it's glued in and will take a lot of work to remove and weld in a plate to cver the roof hole. Option a) .... I have no idea how to do.

Alt-Suggestions? I dont like any of those options at all.

Changing wiring in doors suck. But at least I can do that. Interesting that clearly this is NOT the original door. Alo a lot of fine dust that confirms this car has been used in motorsport.

With the doors and door cards changed, drivers seat installed and..... that really looks a LOT better.

Carpet now fully tacked in and properly placed

Also more centre console test fit

Looking almost car like again.

Next weekend I'm aiming to finish any wiring repairs, line up the key and immobilizer and go for an engine start.

It's not that hard to make your own headliner. Even if it turns out badly the first time, you can do it again the second time. I assume there are a few upholstery shops around as well whose principals might be inclined to swap tips for beer.

Plus, aren't roof vents cheap and widely available for you?

Roof vents wont cover the sunroof hole unfortunatly. TBH headlining is one of the few areas I really dont even have the first clue what to do with - usually we rip em out and that's the end of it.

Spent today doing wiring fixes and plugging the rest of the harness in, as well as realising I had hosed up one of the doors. Fixed that then fiddled with a few other odd jobs until I got to the point the wiring was 100% done and locked into place.

Yeah just one pile of spares I now have

Also tucking the wiring away and tidy up - this looks soooooo much goddamn better than the sit heap I reomved

So after I got the starter motor on and the main power cables into place I had a thought.... why not do a systems test?

Battery conencted....

.....uhhhh.... okay that's a good sign.

Turn the key......

I'll be damned. Fuel pump primed, ECU booted and came alive, all the accessories worked, the power windows (slowly) went up and down. Battery doesnt have enough charge to do more than make the starter solenoid click ... which is also a drat good sign.

Well........ She's coming alive. I'm going to try for a engine start tomorrow.

There is a lot of work to do to get it driving (my todo list is extraordinarily long) but as of now, the most difficult parts are done.

All this to fix the fact I could never get WReckX running due to previous owner fuckups. Well I've now gone one better than they ever did and got it running.

My parents outback has 470k on it and it still keeps ticking away. Sure one of the O2 sensors died a while ago and the stereo stopped working but it still gets called up for trailer pulling duty and hasn't really missed a step yet. You may be Frankensteining cars back together but it's far more exciting than the outback that hasn't missed a beat.

So "apparently" it is the 3rd Rx8 6 speed conversion in the world , the first in a pre RX7 rotary and the only one we know of in a RX2, and I'm apparently the first to then use the RX8 series 2 gearbox in anything...... Heyward rotary worked out the Rx7 clutch mount, I figured the gearbox mount out. It's apparently a much easier fit into a FD however.

I still think it pales to the fact the car has power steering... Or the fact it's fully road regoed with a 12 point chrome moly rollcage.

Yes people, you can drive by a police officer and they leave you alone....

The Rx8 series one has the better ratios and is quite fine for road use. It just wears out the Dog teeth on the gears too quickly.

Physically it would attach to the engine and X-member. Getting the cables/linkage/shifters stuff to work might be a hassle, although I know the rear mount on the chassis is still the same, and everything sticks on top of the trans, so maybe it would work out fine? My understanding is that it's basically just a 5-speed with an extra gear stuck on the back though.

A slight divert before I go through the weekend stuff....

We bring you this non Sunday update to say the yellow WRX is now back on the road, with number plates. One more Subaru saved from the scrapheap!

It's..... much like a 22B to drive. Direct, noisy, not very forgiving at all suspension-wise, it rattles and also GOES when it's up on boost. It's definalty not a cruiser... it wants to go fast and fast it does well. It's showing it's age with some niggles and repairs I'll need to do, the stereo I need to figure out. Also not happy with the dodgy fuel in it but that's being attended to. Rear CV doesnt sound good and the tint is too dark for my liking.

I'm much more thinking it's a forged internals motor thats got a few kms on it - the clutch as well isnt standard (it drives like a puck clutch) and the gearshift is way WAY better than a car of it's age has a right to be. Someone in the past spent a lot of money on it and even as frayed around the edges as it is, it's clearly a good thing as a result. I'm wondering abut the gearbox and diff intenals as well... it really doesnt drive like a stock WRX.

So is the bike. Guess which one is worth more?

Annnnd... of course not 15 minutes after plates on and driving, I get pulled up by a cop claiming "Random breath test". Yeah suuuuure mate, you thought I was Driving While Foreign and you were looking to defect the poo poo out of the car... and instead of some young person of middle eastern appearence, you got a older Aussie who was quietly laughing when you asked where the blow off value was.... and then pointing at the boot as I had returned the resirc to standard and the cop couldnt get me for anything with the aftermarket parts genuinely in the boot ^_^

Needs a name I think. Ideas? It does catch the attention of other drivers, will give it that too.

The ECU is very tunable and its already had the boost wound up. I suspect tho the ECU is not what it appears to be and is an aftermarket one in the oEM housing. Unlikely but the ECU housing screws have been removed and replaced at some point.

He does everything completely legit via the Facebook buy/sell groups as he knows he's watched... mostly because he ain't white. Yeah we both had the same thought, I'd have much fewer problems with this particular WRX.

I rather like dropping in there as he'll have some startlingly good cars he is working on. His personal WRX was niiiice, he's got a VL he's rebuilding, his mate has a ful sik VL turbo (which is, believe or not stock!) and his brother has one of the most unbelieveable VL V8's that you have ever seen because it is so goddamn clean. Like Summernats quality clean. Also they just started working on a genuine Brock VK Group A SS that's seen better days.

WEEKEND POST I HAVE NOT DONE AS YET.....

So anyway.....

Spent most car time getting the yellow WRX ready for road duty - just some tidy up and refulling.

Solution to headlining issue of the WReckX being planned.

Front WRX lip being sanded back and test painted. Honestly... half of it came out good, the other half crap. Will need to prep better.

Hmmmm. The yellow car has a sunroof. This might be useful to copy

Also interesting - intercooler shroud isnt what I thought. That will also come in useful on the WReckX

Nooooooope how it works has failed me completely. But it does apparently play DVD's

Garage clear, WReckX back in and on the stands - I have undercar work to do.

I know a few of you don't believe that cars have tempers and shouldnt be named (GO gently caress YOURSELF, cars should have names!) but the red one is showing she gets spiteful if she's used as a parts donor - she really bit hard surrendering the front seatbelt to get the yellow car registered. She was really narky until we made it clear the garage was hers for a while... and I'm intending to get more done next weekend. Hopefully that list actually gets done... I want to get WReckX drivable over my holidays

Edit : Liberty power steering needed an O-Ring and one of the hoses changed. Messy but the easiest power steering hose I've ever removed. PS oil looks to be in bad shape so I'll have to do a flush this weekend.
