I saw Entombed AD this year and it was the most dull set I've ever seen. The only good song they played was Left Hand Path. Made me sad.

Is that the one with the rear end in a top hat guitar player, or the rear end in a top hat everyone else?

Youtube led me to this song. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v0MkJtI3FvU I was enjoying hearing the bass until I read the comment about it sounding like an upset stomach, which was hilarious but now I can't unhear it.

I don't remember seeing him do that. I just remember being super underwhelmed and bored through the whole set. He did come out for "Guardians of Asgard" which was kinda neat. Amon Amarth was super fun live.

And just think, Les Claypool could have replaced Cliff Burton if he wasn't so 'weird'. Wonder where that Metallica would have ended up.

Ced Forsberg has released a new Blazon Stone album, because yes we do in fact need more good Running Wild worship: https://blazonstone.bandcamp.com/album/down-in-the-dark It's really good, sounds kinda like an amalgamation of earlier Blazon Stone and his other projects that he isn't, afaik, working on anymore. The vocalist has developed a helluva lot from the previous album too.

Are they like a death metal Weird Al, making stylistically similar parody songs or do the songs just have funny titles?
|

Nah the music is just straight up 90s American death metal worship. The weed puns on classic dm song titles thing is just a goofy aesthetic. Slugdge does basically the same thing but with slugs instead of weed and more stylistic variety.

I love bass when it's well used in metal, especially if it's a little melodic. Here's a few I really like: Isis have some great bass, check out 4:46 in In Fiction https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sopiG1Qhlh8 or 3:52 in Backlit https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FDi5L56cx9Y Ne Obliviscaris have their bass mixed a little low considering how good it is, like at 2:55 in Xenoflux https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-wa4zqBwPVE Cryptopsy obviously have insane bass, see the entirety of None so Vile https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q3JeaBoBU-c Aosoth is a little simpler but the bass sound in Arrow In Heart is great, and there's cool moments like from 5:10 in the title track https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FDi5L56cx9Y and Opeth might get a mixed reaction, but the bass plays a huge part in making The Drapery Falls great https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-wa4zqBwPVE That's just off the top of my head, I'm sure I'm missing some great stuff. Edit: Wait, can't talk about bass without mentioning Bolt Thrower https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rv9OeZmFuZw and their spiritual successors Korn https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=emNahB_96JY il_cornuto fucked around with this message at 12:35 on Sep 6, 2017 |

It was their last album I liked, but as a kid playing bass I always loved that combo of sub bass and twangy highs. Works well for them.

Nah, the chill posters are the only ones up atm. Once the serious business metal fans wake up from binge drinking at whatever super hardcore show they went to last night and load the thread you'll start to get the "you're terrible" posts.

I'll never forget the first time I ever heard of the band "Korn". It was on one of their very first national tours. They were opening for Danzig and Marilyn Manson in 1994. A few of the guys were hanging out in the club after their set (Fieldy and Munky if I recall). One of my friends with me inquired about the origins of the band's name. Their canned response was that it came to them after walking in on a guy they knew tossing another dudes salad and he was spitting out corn. I'm sure they got a kick out of telling that story the first several years to people asking about their stupid band name. True story.

I'd like to make it clear to the serious metal fans that I haven't intentionally listened to Korn in over a decade. I didn't even listen to the link I posted! I also wasn't that into them even when I was a nu metal liking teenager, I thought their albums were really inconsistent. Seriously though I don't care if people still like Korn but I was hoping for someone to post more metal with good bass in the style of the other bands.

I had never even seen a shooting star before. 25 years of rotations, passes through comets' paths, and travel, and to my memory I had never witnessed burning debris scratch across the night sky. Korn were hunched over their instruments. Jonathan Davis slowly pressed on his bagpipes, singing, eyes closed, into his microphone like he was trying to kiss around a big nose. Ray Luzier tapped patiently on a double bass, waiting for his cue. White pearls of arena light swam over their faces. A lazy disco light spilled artificial constellations inside the aluminum cove of the makeshift stage. The metal skeleton of the stage ate one end of Florence's Piazza Santa Croce, on the steps of the Santa Croce Cathedral. Michelangelo's bones and cobblestone laid beneath. I stared entranced, soaking in Korn's new material, chiseling each sound into the best functioning parts of my brain which would be the only sound system for the material for months. The butterscotch lamps along the walls of the tight city square bled upward into the cobalt sky, which seemed as strikingly artificial and perfect as a wizard's cap. The rumbling bass chords ascended repeatedly. "Are you ready," Davis sang like his dying words. The trained critical part of me marked the similarity to Coltrane's "Ole." The human part of me wept in awe.

I'm not into the style of music, but Korn's last album was somehow not awful. it's me, the guy that follows up a stargazer video with a comment on a korn album
