TERFs are largely educated middle-aged white women so I'm not surprised one has managed to land an NYT job

My reaction on the first quote was "reporting on an opinion doesn't mean you agree with it though" then I saw the others and I was like :yikes:

he responded to someone writing a book hurling abuse and accusations at him by going "ok but I'm trying to solve other problems now though next question please"; the media calls that "firing back"

Congrats to the fossil fuel industry for their massive victory over an ecologically viable society. Things looked a bit dicey there in the mid 2000s for them in the court of public opinion but they stuck to their guns, stalled every attempt to mitigate the impact their products have on the planet, got a leg up from hapless liberals who myopically viewed climate change through an economic lens and really left it all out there on the field.

it's because they refuse to admit that they're poor

the third way report is full of "middle-class citizens" who have to work 2-3 jobs just to get by or literally have to go into debt just to survive, but still insist that they're not poor and that the government is giving too much help to poor people and not enough to "middle class" people like them

I think this is a consequence of bad-dems' mean-testing social programs.

Like, I can see those who made a smidgen over the expanded-medicaid cutoff pissed that earning $17,000/year = $7,000/year deductibles bc they can only afford premiums for a lovely bronze plan under the ACA. And bc they don't qualify for expanded medicaid, they've been told they're middle-class (160 percent of the federal poverty index = "you're not a poor, and can afford to pay half of your annual net income toward medical costs").

And when a state like CA provides medicaid to undocumented citizens it just amps up the anti-immigrant fervor.

But the solution isn't to focus on "real jobs"; that just leads to meaningless pap like "employer tax credits for more jobs training." Rather than third-waying themselves out of the consequences of their past legislative actions Dems need to make the case for universal social programs.
