Grabbing a crate definitely reveals you; I got my Reaper captured by the Assassin thanks to not knowing that on my first pass, and savescummed it away on the grounds that it was a cheap shot I could not possibly have predicted.

Funny story on that note; it turns out that on a supply recovery mission, so long as you grab even a single crate, it counts as a successful mission. Things went dramatically bad for me and I had to mark one crate, then retreat a turn later with heavy wounds (got a VERY bad activation with relatively low-ranked troops). The squad was all smiles and Bradford was patting himself on the back afterwards.

The UI will tell you if an action will reveal you or end your turn. When you select an action but before you confirm that you'll want to do it, look near the button that you'd click to make your soldier do *thing*. If there's a red eye icon to the left of the button, it will reveal the soldier. If there is a >| icon to the right of the button, it will end that soldier's turn.

Some exceptions apply, but always in your favor. A shot that will proc a bonus action (momentum, Implacable, hair trigger, etc) will still show the end turn icon, and a Reaper's shot will still show the "will reveal" icon even if you end up rolling successfully to not reveal (or have the appropriate skills).

Turns out, Shredder was also the random Training Center perk she would have gotten access to at Sergeant rank, so choosing it at Corporal broke the promotion mechanic and also locked it in as her Sergeant perk, meaning I have to spend her AP if I want the Sergeant perk. Now all that's left is test out wether she double-shreds or wether it's a complete waste.

Training Center for Sparks

Hi, the first half of your post is explained by the second half of your post. It's got nothing to do with the resistance order. Your grenadier rolled the spark's shred, which isn't supposed to be in the training center pool. You should leave a comment on the spark mod you're using.

Well, in practice, all the Hunter does is force you to move to different cover in a game that already has plenty of ways to encourage you to move. If he spawned in behind/flanking you, he might be more dangerous, or had a way to apply some kind of debuff to you. Moving to new cover is rarely bad and is only minorly aggravating if you're using a rifle-focused sharpshooter (and why would you?). If his tracking shot did something else like take away one AP or something, it'd at least be any kind of meaningful interaction. The problem I have with buffing him is that while he's easy, he also is probably the most thematically fun one to fight. The idea of this rear end in a top hat trying to pick off one of my men as they all scurry from cover to cover to eventually corner him is fun. He's less of an actual enemy and more a sitrep-effect that says "one guy must move every turn". The Warlock being able to summon enemies from across the map so you have to fight you way through his allies would be more interesting in the same way. The Assassin doesn't have that, she's just a dick who shows up and does guaranteed damage if you can't find her first.

He'd be a whole hell of a lot more annoying if you took out the UI elements that made it clear which cover was safe, and I can't tell if it'd be in a good or bad way.

I think they spawn at facilities as you discover them in the standard order (viper, berserker, archon), but when you encounter them depends on which facilities you hit. I just finished my first WoTC campaign and never saw the Viper, for example.

I think you need Resistance Comms and Radio to see what the bonuses are.

In other news my second L/I run is going pretty well now that I've stabilised. Plenty of strong troops and a Reaper/Sharpshooter team with dragon rounds that just gently caress up everything they see, The Lost just get wrecked so I feel comfortable saturating ADVENT field commanders on dinner bells so they barely get a shot off in my direction.

The early game is super variable with mission and chosen types being massive modifiers on how hard things will be. Assassin on your first retaliation with Shadowstep? Good luck! Oh, we gave you a lost mission with two free ranger VIPs, good for you. It feels like the problems of Gatecrasher rng spread over a month, but once you clear that you've got so many good tools to offset the enemy tricks with Covert Ops allowing you to collect all the extra XP and engineers and resources you need.

And this is all without the Europe bonus I'm gunning for, instant resistance contact without scanning, just Intel spend, which is huge, granting you potentially 2 months worth of scanning time.

Balance wise I feel like the abilities come from the Blizzard school of making near all of it overpowered. Two tile concealment radius for Reapers. Remote Start. Rend & Parry. Various abilities that break the action economy over its knee like the Headshot mechanic. Psi Ops in general. It's kinda ridiculous how many toys you get if you can survive the early game.

One of the Resistance-given "rescue our operative VIP" missions, that doesn't involve the Lost. Generally just rewards the VIP and some intel, you find the guy then it turns out to be an ambush so you need to survive X turns.

At the start of that type of mission, Bradford mentions that the resistance has an operative in the area to assist with the rescue. That suggests an extra soldier somewhere. There isn't, or if there is, he's well-hidden, and not indicated on the map or the rewards list pre-mission. Is that line just a red herring that should be ignored? Is Bradford lying to me?

The two times I've had that mission there was an unconscious soldier by the VIP.

You're right about how XP and promotions work, but I'm not sure you can farm lost for XP. Although I didn't purposefully farm them I had one sniper who had like 50+ more lost kills than the rest of my squad, and they didn't end up at a higher rank than the other guys. If you do get XP from them it seems like a very small amount.

There are definitely issues in Vanilla XCOM 2 which long war 2 had to fix regarding persisting excessive game states. The issue with that persistence is the serialisation of those states need to be transferred between strategic and tactical, so if a mod doesn't clean house it tends to fill up with garbage such as unit states from all missions.

It's hard to tell what this mod is doing that would cause it, but I have a feeling old serialised data from that mod could be a culprit. Which mod is it?

Problem is I have no idea what mod would even be causing performance issues. I started this campaign with some cosmetics that hadn't been properly updated which I removed about halfway through it. I enabled Gotcha Again around the time my performance started to dive but I know other people run that without any sort of performance hit, and if I start a new campaign it seems to cause no issues.

Pretty sure Sparks operate exactly like soldiers. If you put them in 'cover' they won't get revealed unless they're flanked. They just don't actually get cover bonuses.

Unrelated: is there something permanently sapping will in this game? I just noticed my colonel sniper went from 48 will to 40 will, which is lower than half the rookies I have available. None of my chosen have the 'brutal' strength.

Do you just lose some will every time you become tired or something?
