For some reason people really like EWG hooks for senkos. I suspect it's because having the hook point lay parallel to the worm keeps it from getting tore up when the fish bites them compared to if you use a round bend where the point has to rip through the plastic.

I just typed out a huge post about bass hooks and presentations for senkos but it seemed kinda patronizing. If anyone's interested in my rambling I'll effortpost it but I don't want to 'tell' anyone how to fish. I've had my ups and downs but I've got it dialed in with a lot of trial and error (and research) I'll try some of those little frogs though, right after I land my first carp.

Iirc Gary Y said they are best on a 3/0 EWG or a 3/0 Owner Twistlock. For 5" senkos anyway.

Yeah supposedly that's what he designed them for, but most fisherman I follow don't think EWG is necessary or even the best. Personally I couldn't stop either gut hooking or missing the fish entirely on EWG when I tried to hookset earlier, and I don't think guthooking is the primary concern of a man selling $1 plastic worms touted as landing the most fish.

In experience and reading, gut-hooking it almost always a function of not detecting a bite in time, which can also account for a lot of the missed fish. I am slowly coming back around to EWG hooks for stickbaits, especially the Gammie Skip-Gap ones. The Owner Twistloc hooks are kinda in between an EWG and a Round bend and are becoming my go to hooks for any plastic thicker then a worm.

It's in La Paz, but I don't think they allow you to swim with them without being with a licensed guided group. One time I was there and there were multiple police boats observing everyone and making sure no one was harassing them.

Did some fishing on the Red River today, caught two master anglers! 41" channel cat on a 10lb test line   Wee itty bitty cat  Master angler white bass  And another decent sized cat  Had two others break my line 10' from the dock so that sucked, but all in all a productive 90 minutes of fishing. Caught my smallest and biggest cats ever!

Took some vacation time and hit up the Delaware Canal for the last two days. Here's some drat fish!            Bummed it's supposed to rain here tomorrow. Not only did I take the week off, but I found a great spot today where the pickerel were going crazy on the topwater craw and I'm afraid the heavy rain will push them out.

Basically it's a big canal that connects and runs parallel to the Delaware river. It was built sometime in the 1800's to get coal from northern PA to Philly. Here's the start of the canal. The Canal's wiki if you care to know it's history or something.

I was just really excited that there was a previously unknown to me canal system and the actual state of Delaware, which isn't too far from where I live. I love me some canal fishing.

I also caught a fish recently. Somehow I foul hooked him with a frog. Beats me! I didn't even bend the hooks out on that frog. That day was wild, the bass were feeding soooooo shallow. Literally right at the shoreline, splashing around like carp or something. Big boys, too.

Spent a morning at Eldo Canyon.   A ton of small fry, but the bigger ones were sitting at the bottom of all the plunge pools having nothing to do with any double drop nymphs. Not even the usual pheasant tail and psycho prince movers made them budge.

It's a great largemouth bass habitat and the towpath is like strolling along a country road.   We are officially in the fall "I'll bite anything as long as it's moving fast enough" season. I've had to put the drop shot rod aside and start throwing a lipless crank. I got eight of them around the size on Saturday, ripping the lipless through submerged grass.

Generally, the summer to fall transition is when the bass really start feeding up for winter, so fast moving lures that let you cover more water start working really really well.

I've started using him for all my jigs and chatterbait needs, his poo poo is great and is usually a dollar so less then the major brands. For something you can find on Amazon, just buy the most expensive Z man ones you can stand to buy. The cheaper ones little junky however. In general, Amazon has terrible prices on fishing poo poo unless you get lucky and find something in the robots are selling for pennies on the dollar. For single purchases I usually use eBay if I can find a vendor with a reasonable price shipped, otherwise I just wait till I need 50 bucks worth of stuff and buy from tackle warehouse. Chatterbaits are kind of weird, I never had a lot of luck with them until I switch to a heavy rod with more of a medium fast rather than fast action. They really do have a ton of resistance moving through the water and it was hard to fish them for more than an hour or so at a time when I tried using a medium heavy/ fast rod. I've also never really found ones lighter than 3/8 of an ounce to work particularly well. I caught a lovely little smallmouth on a topwater cork popper this morning, and, distressingly, I injured it bringing it in. Poor little thing was only maybe 9 inches, still clearly a juvenile, and I was an idiot without a net to land it properly, and I dropped it. I don't mind keeping and eating fish, but I hate hurting one accidentally. I know this is dumb.
