We're both on the normal difficulty (Veteran?), and no armor-increasing Dark Events are currently active for either of us. I had one earlier, but it's long expired by now, and I don't have the Permanent Dark Events option on.

Someone upthread said they had the Lost-on-every-map Dark Event keep occurring after it expired, so that may be your problem--that armor increasing event didn't expire as intended.

That... COULD be it, I suppose. I thought that bug was Lost World-only? This also might explain why I've had horrible trash garbage luck with Overwatch ambushes ever since that "Overwatch Doesn't Work" event.

The Lost World dark event was specifically due to the normal tactical dark event cleanup functionality not catching it (since it got implemented as a SITREP tag rather than a dark event tag): most tactical dark events like armour increases should be fine.

I'm not playing commander so disregard if you are, but on veteran at least I did the assassin with mag weapons and no psi. Since I wasn't prepared for the extra summons I used my banish reaper skill on the assassin the first time I saw her, which was dumb. It would have been better to use it on the sarcophagus. A gunslinger sniper, heavy, reaper, 2 rangers and a hack+ med genius specialist, all or most at max level, were fine. Nobody died but I had probably 2 wounded.

Yeah, this was on Commander. A big part of it is how variable the summons are. After doing all three Chosen Strongholds, it's completely random whether you get dangerous enemies like Spectres or Berserkers that take a lot of firepower to down, or bada-bitch regular ADVENT Troopers you can casually dispose of.

My first time was all Berserkers and Spectres, and I was already down a man due to a tragic "I didn't know that cover could explode" incident. Just didn't have enough firepower to stay on top of them while simultaneously damaging the Sarcophagus. The Assassin herself is a major pain as well. If you don't stay literally on top of her she will hit-and-run your guys every turn and there's nothing you can do. But if you focus her down first, you won't be in position to crush the Sarcophagus and you'll only bring in more summons.

They're easy as balls with Plasma. Rather than rushing to eliminate them, it's better to just let them do their thing until you can crush them with contemptuous ease.

Yep, I have two. I'm having the same issues with Superior Repeaters. I have found a total of two basic repeaters and that's it.

I saw that A Better Advent was ported. With the Chosen now, I can imagine that's absolutely nuts, fighting the increased pod sizes, stronger advent AND them.

Also I completed WotC on Commander, and I really enjoyed my time playing it. I'm still a bit nervous about making the jump to Legend though.

IIRC, the new version doesn't include stuff like the increased squad sizes, just the new variants and the AI; the increased pod sizes and stuff is going into a "Better Campaign" mod later.

Integrating the DLC really just means you won't see it, since Facility missions are almost entirely optional and Sparks are too much investment for too little gain.

Yeah, honestly, those are pretty bad.

I got the one that makes it so covert ops can't be ambushed, and that was pretty great. It essentially meant covert ops were just the occasional totally-free reward.

I think the best one to get early is the "increase AP gain by 25%" one because it isn't retroactive and more AP=better soldiers. Increased XP isn't bad, nor is "automatically train to SGT" if you get it early enough.

Yes

Make a point of taking all of the resistance order stuff, just to narrow the pool up.

I managed to drop the assassin on Commander with a Berserker spawn and mag weapons on this current run but it was a GIANT pain in the rear end and I savescummed the final fight once (had no idea what I was walking into). I had a reaper that got bonus assassin damage, a ranger and a templar and the assassin had Brittle which is probably the only reason I got it done.

I really like Sparks. Overdrive is one of the most clutch abilities in the game and having a soldier that doesn't get tired and can be deployed when injured really helps a lot with your squad management. Having at least one Spark is a good thing IMO.

Got a Warlock in my legend campaign that is adverse to Reapers, which includes damage dealt from the Reaper's explosives skill. So when he showed up this time I tried to bait him into taking cover in a gas station. He did, and my Reaper was in range to throw his claymore and use remote start.

Fuck you say?
What happens when a Warlock shows up on a Horde mission and then everyone runs off, leaving him to fight them on his own?

This:

And eventually:

I lost one of my soldiers to his daze, even after rescuing her she couldn't escape the horde due to disorient, and he had mind controlled one of my other guys leaving him to ineffectually plink at Lost who totally ignored him. Eventually the MC broke and I legged it back to the evac, but the Warlock was getting completely flooded by Lost and I wanted to stick around to watch the show. About 8 turns later and he was autoattacking them one by one, missing or doing completely tragic damage with his rifle, while round after round summoned an endless pack of Lost. I almost felt sorry for him. Almost.

Does a Chosen Avenger mission trigger right away when a Chosen achieves full knowledge, or is there some delay? I'm trying to weight the risks of going after the assassin without plasma on legendary, vs. potentially getting an Avenger mission.

Gadzuko

There is a delay, their Chosen activity switches to a "assault the avenger" thing and it will trigger at some point after that. I'm not sure how long or if it's random.

No, you have to kill everything, including gun cars, and take out the Chosen. In my game there were 2 guaranteed Sectopods at the siege gun they brought in. You get 10 soldiers to throw out there.

Defense matrix is actually kind of hilarious in this case. The turrets have squad sight and both of the maps I played on were perfectly flat. Once a Reaper made it across the map I sniped all their cars and the power truck so the Avenger was never in any danger :v:
