Attitude Indicator posted:Isn't ff7 available on ps4? I see it in the store for $16, pretty sure I bought it on sale for like $8 or less but it definitely is. It's the version that you can speed up at will also which is super nice if you are replaying it.

Attitude Indicator posted:Isn't ff7 available on ps4? Yep, its on pretty much every Sony console/handheld and PC. The PC and PS4 are based on the same build with higher res in mind. The rest are just the PS1 version. I did a comparison and fired up my PSone connected to a PVM (so RGB), PS2 connected to a CRT via component, PS3 on my HD TV, PS4 on my other HDTV, PC, PSP and Vita to play FF7 at the same time on all of them to see which is best. PC/PS4 looks the best (for obvious reasons), followed by Vita & PSone on a PVM (better screens and/or output quality), followed by PSP, followed by PS2 on my CRT, and then my PSN copy on my PS3 looked like poo poo. Nostalgia4Dogges posted:have you seen the OLED screen though? I'm curious just how much better it is. I mean, it's early OLED tech, not sure if that matters. I've used both quite a bit and I can't see much of a difference. The LCD looks really nice and I prefer the sleeker design. The OLED probably looks a little better but I really had to stack them side by side to see any difference at all. Overall I'd say the differences between the two Vitas are so marginal it's splitting hairs. Also, vita 2000 doesn't use proprietary charging which is a huge plus.

FireMrshlBill posted:The Vita thread is just an Anime porn thread 80% of the time. So I kinda of just think of the PS4 thread as the Sony gaming thread in general. Vita remote play and cross save between Vita and PS4 games keeps it relevant too. Now that I have a Switch, I really need to sell off my Vita more than ever. It has already caked another millimeter of dust on top of it, and the last time I touched it was when I started to format it to get it ready for sale and then forgot about it

All these headsets that bestbuy and GameStop and everyone are eager to sell you on, are they a simple way to get game audio in your ears or just chat poo poo?

either. the ps4 has options to output both game and voice or just voice to headsets

My Vita collects dust most of the time, but every time I turn it on for a few minutes it brings me this little amount of joy that makes it so I can't bring myself to sell it. I just like it as a piece of hardware even though I rarely use it. Plus I think trade in value on it is like 20 bucks.

I'm playing Cold Steel 2 on mine right now, and after Danganronpa V3 this month I'm probably never buying another Vita game again unless any of those SaGa games finally come overseas.

I own most of the SaGa games, Legend of Legacy is pretty slick in comparison. Wasn't there another one coming out in the states before the actual SaGa games that people were really excited for, similar to Bravely Default?

I'm just gonna replay Romancing SaGa PS2 because that game ruled. I wish PS1 Classics weren't dead so we could get the Frontiers on the PSN in English. Remember PS Classics?

I have this thing where I romanticize the hell out of portables. The part of my brain that went nuts when the gameboy came out still is fascinated by them. But I buy them all and never use them. When I go on vacation I am always like "hell yeah portable time" and then I just end up watching movies on my laptop on the flight, or when I'm sitting in a waiting room I just forget my handheld and dick around on the forums on my phone. I think I like handheld gaming much more in theory than in practice. One thing thats cool about Switch though is that it can be both portable and a console. I'm just looking for a few good excuses to buy one, but to me at least, the game selection is abysmal. There are 2 games that I have any interest in and I played the big one on a borrowed Wii U already, and the other looks like a quirky, much more limited version of a game I am already playing right now that just got a huge expansion (X-COM). New Mario looks good. I can't bring myself to give a poo poo about Mario Kart or Smash Bros or any of their IP's that haven't done anything new in 20 years. Supposedly they are making a new metroid Prime but I'll believe it when I see it. I was so close to buying a switch at Target the other day and then I looked over at the games and I was like "oh yeah "

I made the mistake of getting a Vita to use for PS4 Remote Play and that feature did not work for me at all at any acceptable level of quality. I enjoyed my time with it (mostly 40 hours of Spelunky) but I don't foresee myself using it ever again at this point. I guess the video apps were nice too but then I got a phone with a decent screen. On the other hand I have already played half a dozen games on the Switch and spent over 100 hours with it in just the past couple of months, to speak nothing of how stacked the rest of the year looks for it.

I've never gotten Vita Remote play to work well enough for it to be playable outside of the house, where I'd prefer to play on a 60 inch TV and not a 4 inch one.

SaGa Frontier 2 has one of my all time favorite OSTs, although I can't remember if I'm just thinking of the piano album that I've listened to a bajillion times. Romancing SaGa would be a great thing to be ported to PS4; it's what drew me to install a PS2 emulator last year but I just don't spend that much time in front of my computer to play through an RPG like that. Every time I look at the strategy guide on my shelf I get the itch. The Vita is cool because it has a decent selection of PSX and PSP offerings, but the gaps in the coverage are pretty glaring. I want to try Metal Gear Acid, dang it. And for some reason, Acid doesn't work on my modded PSP.

Overall I'd say the differences between the two Vitas are so marginal it's splitting hairs. Ya, the LCD on the 2000 looks great still. People overreact when comparing it to the OLED. If you don't hold them next to each other, you will be happy with the Slim's screen, maybe unless you had an OLED that you used for years that died and got used to the color saturation. Some people even prefer the Slim thinking the OLED looks too saturated. Plus the Slim gets better battery life (I think 2 hours extra or so) and micro usb as you mentioned. Though the OLED version feels a little sturdier build-wise since it isn't plastic like the Slim. But the slims buttons have a slightly better tactile feel. You hear people say the Slim has better speakers... others say the OLED... some say original Slim speakers were good but later versions weren't, so who knows. The battery is what sold me on the Slim since I held off on the Vita until they sold the Slim's Borderlands 2 bundle. They both do remote play... so that is all that really matters, PS4 on the can
