He had time back in the Summer vote to wait to see how McCain voted, and when McCain voted 'no' then Heller could have just voted 'present' to get himself out of being on record. Nope he voted on it, and then doubled down by putting his name on this. I swear there must be a think tank or lobbying firm that's more or less just guaranteed him a cushy seat on the other side of the revolving door once he loses reelection.

I was worried Rand Paul was serious about negotiating, but he seems pissed about the latest revision. He apparently just went on CNN reiterating his opposition. Collins should kill it if she announces soon. Ideally, we can get Murkowski as well to prevent Graham-Cassidy from launching yet another "optimism offensive" to keep me up at night.

https://twitter.com/benjysarlin/status/912407398496768001 None of this matters to the GOP. What matters is that their donors will sit on their checkbooks until they get the tax cuts they were promised, and they can't deliver those tax cuts with Medicaid in the way.

Wait it's a bad thing to not have to make decisions about health care instead of it just being taken care of? That sounds pretty awesome to me since I had two surgeries in May and June and have to decide which bills to pay first.

I'm assuming there's no chance of reviving this corpse before the 9/30 deadline, right? If that's the case, when's the next GOP opportunity to terrorize the poor, sick and disabled through the budget reconciliation process? Or will they finally put this aside and try for he tax cuts?

Rhesus Pieces posted:I'm assuming there's no chance of reviving this corpse before the 9/30 deadline, right? they'd need to come up with a new idea, get it scored, and get a vote on it in five days. that is...unlikely. all three no votes are pretty clear that they will not support something rushed and/or will not be bribed. paul wants a completely different bill. mccain wants regular order. collins wants regular order and a sane bill. the path they saw involved getting mccain and either bribing murkowski or getting paul on board. they didn't get mccain and can't get him. it's over. the next opportunity would not be for several months at least: the GOP has no agreement on tax cuts and needs to figure that out, then figure out if they can graft repeal onto that. also, they need to fight over if they will even issue the right instructions. there will be no possibility of "surprise! vote next week!" for some time
