whenever this topic comes up there's a weird attempt to make it look like chip+pin was always bad for the consumer no matter where it was deployed. end of the day the us doesn't have actual consumer protection and blaming low security barriers for existing is doing more harm than good. a card with copied track data is less and less useful in europe, but it's great for the attacker when an ally country is happy to accept it. if this topic was about 2fa (sms) vs none for sso, where would the arguments be?

I literally can't remember a time my parents didn't have to use a PIN when they used their CC's. I'm over 35. a minority of shops had those imprint things and my parents always bitched about them because they'd ruin the chip/strip more often than not.
