Note that Canonn and other parties interested in "peace" with the bugs have been deliberately giving them escape pods rather than delivering them to their local SAR officers. Kill them all - bugs and their sympathizers alike.

You are correct. It's loving moronic from a game design perspective, it's loving moronic from a game enjoyment perspectice, and it's loving moronic from a hard-core realism perspective. It's just loving moronic. The entire computer game part of Elite is just an endless series of fetch quests, and the "space sim" bit disregarding everything resembling interaction with missions, trade etc. is the only worthwhile thing in the game. It's a tech demo. It's a good tech demo with fantastic graphics, and that's why people play, but the design of everything beyond "go here, see the pretty thing and/or shoot at it" is frankly pathetic. Still like flying around in Elite though.

Right now I think Elite could really benefit from a series of static missions that function effectively like a single player campaign and tutorial. Have the missions run the gamut of mission types, have actual voice actors, and reveal to the player the thargoid storyline piece by piece. Actually pay the players a decent payout so they can get out of their starter ship. So by the time the player is done they A- Get some backstory B- Have some credits in their pocket and can buy a halfway decent ship. C- Understand how to do the various mission types. D- Actually feel like they accomplished something.

I feel like Frontier should take a good long look at how other MMOs guide their players along their experiences. Sure, a game like Final Fantasy XIV may be a very different sort of game, with a much more limited play area and with very different and more focused goals in terms of player interaction, but I still feel like there are lessons to be learned their in terms of guiding players towards a tangible thing to work towards, and creating instanced content meant for singular or small groups of individuals. Also, I am never taking another massacre mission again. "Go one system over and kill 24 ships for a 3 mil payout? Sure, sounds great! I'll just pop over into a conflict zone and be done with this in about 15 minutes!" Yeah, turns out conflict zone ships don't count, even though they belong to the targeted faction. There were no resource sites to camp in for pirates either, so I had to fly around interdicting and killing pirates one at a time, and it took me three goddamn hours. I could have made ten times the amount of money I did in that time if I'd just stuck with passenger missions. Valcione fucked around with this message at 00:48 on Sep 30, 2017 |

People who play this game sure are whiny. In other news the new exploration route planning is even more good than I thought when you enable scoop neutrons. I also discovered a landable planet that was terraformable which I didn't think possible. Should hit Colonia on Sunday hopefully.

I compared a route with it on and off and it had a difference of 20+ jumps, which is pretty cool now that you don't have to manually route after charging. Do the Diamond Frogs still conduct any operations for Galcop faction out in Colonia or is the focus in the bubble? I'm about 7kly away from it, so that's a day or two for me as well.

Can anyone offer me any feedback on this particular build? https://coriolis.edcd.io/outfit/ana...gJskOKYoA%3D%3D Is this for PVP or PVE? If it's PVE, I may recommend just going full dakka and all MCs. Other than that: drop the fuel tank, srv bay, afmu, and cargo racks and replace them with SCBs or HRP, A-rate the sensors and life support, then up-armor the hull with reactive surface composite (is that the de jure?). So mine looks more like this, but you'll need to roll a better power plant and re-engineer some of your weapons. For PVE I would also recommend efficient beams: they shoot forever. If you want to PVP, hit up the pvp channel in discord and you'll get better fitting advice. Breetai posted:

Seriously, why do they want us to grind so much? It's obvious that they do. When you make a player grind towards a goal you have to make sure that goal is worth it otherwise you get dissallusioned players.

I'm starting to think space games are unique in that they are only as good as how much devs ignore space game fans. That Reddit thread someone posted a few pages back where someone complained about not knowing what the gently caress was going on without checking reddit has a few choice quotes. quote:Its your choice not to keep updated via Reddit or the Forums, why should Frontier have to adjust their way of telling a story just to cater for you? And anyway you could just go and watch somebody like Obsidian Ant if you want to stay updated but discover things for yourself first.

I'm just about to make Exploration Elite in a barely modded Sidewinder and will have more money than I care to ever use. Meanwhile there are CMDRs who spent that whole time in a Nav Beacon and might just be able to afford a basic Vulture. The risk/time/reward calculation is FUBARed. The number of newbies in Quince-funded Anacondas that are burnt out on the game is really funny though.

You don't need to level up on rep for Rhea/LQ runs as even neutrals will drop six million offers to haul some people next door after a bit of board scrubbing. People are hammering this hard tho as the mission board is flaking out.

I was wondering about some of the technical aspects of how this game is run; obviously it doesn't render everything in the galaxy at once because that's impossible, so how does it simulate an open galaxy with stars and whatnot exactly where they're supposed to be surrounding you depending on your position? Is it a series of instances that are generated the moment a player enters? Are the stars and whatnot just some sort of skybox wizardry? Is it actually possible to fly between stars without jumping and going through a disguised load screen if you left the game running for long enough and cheated yourself infinite fuel? Or is there an invisible barrier a billion LS's out?
