It's not like Jones wanted Corbyn to fail. Before he got into the media he worked in John McDonnell's office, & he's campaigned quite a lot for Labour candidates in the flesh. So yeah, he was wrong, but he certainly didn't want to be right. Basically I'm just saying don't confuse Jones with utter melts like Behr & D'Ancona & Toynbee.

Yeah, he's not a bad dude, but I think it's hilarious how concern-trolly he got last year.

Here's the vid that got him some flak from the left:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lGhOTihjHlk

He raises some good points, but a lot of it was right-wing talking point concern trolling. I think he started as pro-Corbyn, got hit by the anti-Corbyn media wave and faltered, but now realizes that the new Corbyn plan is solid.

This combined with the widely loved capping of tuition fees policy and repeatedly asking the young to give up their beer and season tickets in favour of bike to travel around to find work, I feel for certain now that the next election will be a landslide victory for the Conservatives.

Tuition fees were capped already though right? Thought it was a max of 9 grand then they got surprised that all the Unis went with taking more money rather than less and all set the max price?

The opening paragraphs :wow:

quote:

It is instructive that the only policy announcement of Jeremy Corbyn’s party conference speech in Brighton was the nationalisation of corpses. Under a Labour government the organs of the deceased will be “presumed” to belong to the National Health Service.

“Presumed consent” for organ donation shows the challenge that Mr Corbyn’s opponents face. His instinct for state ownership is almost absolute. And it is also attractive: who can oppose the redistribution of surplus resources, like hearts and livers, from those who do not need them to those who do?

its tricky just because handling of the dead and condition of corpses is unaccountably important for some religious people/groups

like ok make it opt out but you gotta do due diligence to make sure every fuckin person is told about the opt out in any terms they need to understand it and withdraw their consent

i guess including a question every year or 2 at dr appts ("oi guv you wanna stop a needy baby from getting yr fookin liver or arse from ye dead killed corpse, fook??") and as part of hospital admissions poo poo, maybe in a few other times???????

or just put a withdraw consent checkbox on yr natl id card or something

idk you wanna balance access for people who think it alters their loved ones eternal disposition, w not giving too much cause to think about it to people who would just randomly refuse for no fuckin reason if you asked them enough times

It's shite man. Used to be free until New Labour got in. When introduced they were £1,175, in 2006 the limit went up to £3,000. In 2010 the coalition bunged them up to £9,000, which is a huge part of why the Lib Dems are hated so much, going into the election Nick Clegg had made a huge deal about promising to fight against rises but as soon as he got a sniff of power he threw that to the wayside, along with the Lib Dems voting base amongst students.

We compare tuition fees to those around the rest of Europe, because you pay the same rates as native citizens as an EU citizen. But it does means a German can go to St Andrews for free but an English person has to pay a couple of grand a year. What the English have to pay is a lot when compared to Northern Ireland, Scotland, France, Germany, and the rest of the EU. American tuition is just a whole different kettle of fish, an utter monster. Plus you have so many more private unis and here they are almost all state affairs.

Are there really religious groups who frown on organ donation? It just seems petty and cruel to me, insisting that your organs rot instead of giving them to someone in need. I guess I've always had problems empathizing with people who give a poo poo about what happens to their body after they die.

organ donation as a p commonplace thing is new, extremely new, compared to how long weve been dealing w corpses/death—something concerned in which religion tends to offer a lot of guidance
