Hilariously salty piece in the NP yesterday about the Flames and Nenshi http://nationalpost.com/sports/hock...4c-c0bb8d557230 quote:
I'm the part where a library is called an overzealous expense in an article arguing for massive sports team subsidies. I looked into it and the Flames have averaged 97-100% attendance every season since 2010-2011. If only there was some market based solution to this problem. Hmmm

I want it opened simply because it'd probably make driving in to / through downtown a nightmare and as a result maybe less people would do it and start considering public / active transit. I also hope they do something to Waterfront drive so people stop using it to bypass traffic.

This is literally econ 101 stuff

The nearest train platform recently had a random stabbing in broad daylight. Is that all the area can ever be? The Toronto Reference Library, biggest of the city's public libraries and the crown jewel of the system, was planned for a site that, at the time, was hippie central. I'm sure the choice of location angered a good number of squares who saw it as some kind of sick joke shrine to stoners. One happy-go-lucky provincial politician called the area a "festering sore". Now of course, what once was hippie central is the place for the rich and famous to see and be seen and a block away is the poshest shopping in town (in the country?)
