Samantha and I have been best friends since we were assigned as freshman year roommates. Anyway, after we moved into our new apartment, Samantha confided in me that she always wanted to be a furry but that she didn't feel comfortable expressing herself around other people (except me). I love to cosplay so I offered to help her sew a fursuit that she could wear to conventions. Samantha designed the suit and I sewed it. She loves it so much that she wears it at home and we have gone out to bars with her in the fursuit (we live in New Orleans, no one blinked an eye).

The problem is, Samantha's parents have been fighting with her about the fursuit. Contrary to what most people assume about furries, Samantha is a very attractive, preppy woman. She was a legacy in our sorority (her mom was in the same sorority at the same uni) and despite the minor nerdy streak, no one would ever assume that she would be interested in furry culture. Two months ago, Samantha's parents dropped by the apartment unexpectedly and saw her in the fursuit through the window from their parked car. When they rang the bell, they were furious and demanded to come inside. Samantha let them come in (she had taken off the fursuit by that point) and her parents started to berate her about being a 'freak' and a 'pervert'.

Things calmed down since that initial incident, but her parents are constantly trying to start arguments with her and to drag me into it. Her mom will call the house phone and basically beg me to convince Samantha to stop. It seems to come from a place of genuine concern rather than anger, therefore I try to be calm and explain that Samantha is 100% fine and that she is just expressing herself. Samantha's mom is worried that Samantha will never find a proper husband, but Samantha doesn't even have that on her radar until after grad school.
In the meantime, I have been trying to keep the peace, but it's tiring. Samantha often cries because her parents are so disapproving. She is sad because all they see is a creepy costume, not a persona that she spent years designing. She's tried to explain it, tried to stop them from calling and starting crap, but it isn't working.
I know Reddit likes to jump to conclusions, so I would like to reiterate: Her parents have always been supportive of her and are in no way abusive or narcissists. They are Catholic and fairly liberal. There is no screaming in these fights; surprisingly it has all been rather healthy, all things considered. They just don't understand why she feels the need to be a furry despite our best efforts to explain.
Any advice is greatly appreciated.

tl;dr: My roommate has decided to be a furry. Her parents found out and are causing arguments because they do not understand her lifestyle. It seems to come from a place of genuine concern for their daughter and we are looking for a way to resolve the conflict.

The story mentioned above: One time another friend needed to use my laptop and he snooped on my history and found a bunch of stuff he made out to be a sign of me being depraved and perverted. He thought this was hilarious. He screenshot some porn and other stuff that I know isn't something many people are into but that's exactly why I never talked about it, because mentioning it would be creepy. So I kept it to myself but now he's spread it around. Now no women I meet through any of these guys would want to go out with me, because they already know me as the pervert who looks at those things. It's part a huge joke to everyone and part something they're weirded out by.

I only room with men now because of the four female roommates I've had, three of them ended up thinking I was either peeping on them or intentionally opening the door when they were on the toilet. It was an accident. They also accused me of staring at their breasts. One also thought I was peeping while she was asleep just because I returned a book I'd borrowed to her desk.

Also girls think I'm being creepy by hitting on them when I'm not. I already know women don't find me attractive so I don't bother trying to flirt, I just converse sincerely.

I live near a park and would walk my dog there until a few women basically accused me of perving on their kids playing. Plenty of other dudes were in the park and they didn't do it to any of them.

Most recently a woman at work said she'd heard a man's voice when she was in the bathroom and a guy said "Oh it was probably (my name)", and everyone laughed. Even at my job I'm seen as The Creeper.

If I ever try to do something nice for a stranger, they look at me weirdly and my friends say later that it's because I came off like a perv. So I just don't try anymore but I'm still giving off perv vibes and I don't know why.

One friend said "How I breathe". A few others said the TV shows I watch. A girl once said my beard but I haven't had a beard since then. Can insults against gamers be classed as a hate crime

By the title I mean say a tv show making fun of gamers by enforcing stereotypes. Also could we sue the developers or tv studio making said tv show?

I ask because watching last nights episode of criminal minds not only did the entire episode enforce the stereotype that games make people aggressive but a comment was made by dr Tara Lewis played by Aisha Tyler. �That could have been overwhelming to guys recruited for their ability to hang out their moms basement playing call of duty� it was at 21:38 and it�s episode 4 of season 13 for anyone interested.I�m a gamer and while I do know people who play call of duty none of them have committed murder as far as I know.

So like I already asked could this be classed as a hate crime? If a serious tv show like criminal minds made fun of or enforced a stereotype of say black people, Asian people, Irish people, homosexual people or even otherkin I imagine there would be serious questions raised so why is it not the same for gamers? If it is the same then how does someone go about taking legal action? The money would go towards Samaritans here in the uk as I know from personal experience many people use games as a escape from depression.
