I mean nowadays the answer is clear because two of the guys are in Lord Vicar and Spiritus Mortis, making comparatively non-self-parodizing doom metal, but back in 2004 when Goddess of Doom was first released it was extremely :thunk:

Cannibal Corpse will come to your town at least once a year and play the exact same show every time. Missing them once isn't that big of a deal.

I know the metal thread doesn't do much accounting for individual tastes but you'd think people would at least recognise that Babymetal are techinically talented and put on a great live show even if they personally can't stand the aesthetic.

Rob Zombie popped in my head for some reason (maybe I saw a homeless guy) so I decided to give this album a spin again. It's actually still pretty awesome, and I think the first hard rock/metal album I ever bought.

I was never a fan of all the sampling that white zombie did but it's easy to overlook because the music had a great groove.

Sexorcisto is a must-have.

And then Rob went off and did Hillbilly and it was a lot of "drat, he got better??"

White Zombie is stupid but fun. Rob solo was awesome when I was 11 but doesn’t hold up (not that I won’t turn up to Dragula whenever I hear it). I saw Rob play all of Astro-Creep at Riot Fest last year and I expected to walk away after three songs but it was actually a blast.

It’s also fun to think about how when I was a kid and my neighbor played Rob Zombie I was legitimately terrified of his samples and videos.

I haven't listened to this in years but it's good dumb fun. Definitely sounds pretty dated in parts though.

Most people grow out of being weird jerkasses about music they don't like in their teens, but metalheads disproportionately hold onto that for quite a lot longer, especially when it comes to subgenres of metal they don't like.

Even if you never bought this CD, almost every action movie for the next five years had it in their soundtrack. My favorite was End of Days literally just playing it over the OST.

A lot of metal sounds good slowed down a little bit. Once I slowed down the pitch on my turntable and forgot about it then just got used to the sound for a while. Good times.

Most of the old metallica riffs are all just the blues pentatonic (or an aeolian with a flat fifth) so uh yeah they're very similar just at different tempos. Play some songs off dopethrone at 1.5x speed and they're just thrash riffs slowed down.

Edit: that slowed down version of creeping death is loving ridiculous.
