I'm playing in my first Netrunner tournament in a few weeks! It's an event for charity where players bid for pairs of IDs. I've ended up with Blue Sun/Quetzal.

I'm a relatively inexperienced player, I'm excited to play in this tournament and just mainly hoping not to get completely hosed. Any tips for strategies/builds for my IDs?

Well, it was yesterday, and it was super fun. I performed as badly as I suspected (came last) BUT I did manage to win a game and as a total n00b to competitive netrunner, I had a lovely time.

I don’t think we met (I was the noisy guy called ‘Dave’ playing the rotating Runner ID) but that was a good read, glad you had a good day - Rich is a great guy anyway, so I’m really pleased it continues to do so well.

Some wonderful hilarious new agendas.

I suppose I could part with one and still be feared...
It doesn't just screw up multi-access, though? It lets you assemble combo pieces, so you can hunt for a Punitive or a Shipment to score your other agenda or whatever. It's probably not as good as Obokata but it's not total trash either. It gives you a powerful response to losing an agenda, and it's quite a cool mechanic.

edit: also nice to see they've got someone with actual game knowledge writing the preview pieces

edit2: i r dum and forgot FC is already restricted

The concept of having 5/3's that grant their benefit regardless of if they're stolen or scored is a cool idea, but I can see it being a fine balancing act. That said, the runner stealing it means they're 3 points closer to victory regardless of the effect, so I'd rather the effects were maybe a little overpowered rather than underpowered.

Can't wait to see what weaksauce version of this they're hyping for Weyland. I'll bet the pack it comes in that it involves either advancing ice or getting money.

I dunno, draw 7 cards when you score or steal it is pretty useful, and its better than that.

If anything, the use I see for it is force-feeding the runner another 5/3 for the punitive.

It'll be something like "Trace 1: Gain 5 credits".

Given that there's already a money one and they all seem to revolve around "enable Punitive", I'm guessing "When x is scored or stolen, you may search R&D for an operation, reveal it, and add it to HQ."

With standoff being fixed, FC being restricted, a good fast advance plan, and (at long last) some reasonable ice, Weyland might be in a pretty decent place right now, honestly.

It's cool to see people pick up the IDs people dismissed. Argus still isn't quite happy with Film Critic being around, but Titan has more tools to do the thing it always liked to do, and my boy Builder of Nations is having fun with the critical mass of advancable ice + methods to shuffle tokens around. Granted, every BoN deck is objectively better out of Skorpios, but shut up. :colbert:

I hope Kitara gives Weyland a cool new ID now that BWBI and GRNDL aren't around.

Are you implying BWBI was ever cool or good? Because it is arguably the worst ID in the game. Maaaaybe that 45/22 no Jinteki HB I'd is worse, but man it's close

I have a few dumb rules question I can't find answers to at first glance. I've been out of the game a while, so.

Modded-> comet: does that let you play an event immediately, or next time you play?

Follow up: Unique cards in play trash duplicates. If you had multiple unrezzed copies, and were willing to accept that, could you double tap an MCA Austerity policy?

What about getting multiple jeeves to fire, by getting rid of(or recurring) the first one?

Why or why not?

You can double tap mca austerity policy, if you're willing to pay the cost to do so-called it's probably not worth it.

Also, if you cannot fire multiple jeeves, because the 'first time...' clause cannot be fired multiple times a turn.

What about with different action sets?

I was reading the ufaq pasted into the card, here https://netrunnerdb.com/en/card/10067 and the source of the actions taken seems to matter.

if you play 3clix of operations, and advance something 3 times, for example? Both are a first time that hasn't been met before.

(I'm guessing this is a no, but also ground already tread)

If you spend three clicks on operations, then three more clicks on something else, you can't have Jeeves fire again. It's the first time you spend 3 clicks on the same thing, which means spending three more clicks on a different thing is the second time that turn you have done what Jeeves looks for.

No because if you have six clicks on your turn you need to score a 5/3 from hand, not dicking around with overwriting Jeeves to get 1 more click

Thank you for the explanation. So even if you had a second one, the opportunity for him to do work passed?

Haha, yeah. Advancing cards was a bad example; the specific scenario I was thinking about involved jeeves an unloading an efficiency comittee, and then musing on what you could do with that. Play triples?

7 clicks and you can't advance anything.

Correct. There can only ever be one trigger for it, since by definition any subsequent ones will no longer be the first time that turn.

berenzen
Jan 23, 2012

You can't get a single jeeves to fire twice, and there's nothing about jeeves itself that says it can only fire once a turn. It wouldn't be different if you had a second jeeves ready to go.

The common thing to pre-rotation was subliminal messaging->Lateral Growth an agenda-> Biotic->(jeeves trigger)-> Advance x4 to fast advance an agenda from hand.

World’s Top 8 gets some Etsy-lookin’ wood boxes this year for tokens. Still, I guess it’s an upgrade over previous years. I really don’t know if there should be cash prizes for Premier events. I think there’s audience enough to support it if Asmodee wanted to.

a bunch of the san fran crew scraped a netrunnerdb exploit that allowed you to access private decks that people may have shown off. There was a big blow up about it on the netrunner facebook page and on the stimhack forums because a bunch of top players had their worlds decks that they were keeping secret leaked to a select few individuals.

I'll add to this:

DON'T neglect to read an unrezzed Blacklist as you proceed to run its unprotected remote once a turn for ten turns to purposefully decline to trash it in order to trigger Maw, all the while dumping literally all of your conspiracy breakers in the heap for later, only to have the Corp finally draw into ICE and protect the Blacklist that they have now rezzed.

I still managed to win that game somehow, but I facepalmed so hard when it was finally rezzed I gave myself a headache.

Two Cores would probably be fine, I've been playing for years with two Core 1.0s and occasionally borrowing a Desperado for a tournament. I think the only equivalent one-ofs that are problematic in Revised Core are Special Order and maybe one or two others. Should probably note that Revised Core doesn't have a release date yet, but is tentatively "end of the year".

Past cycles are trickier. Anything in Genesis are Spin are gone, except for what made it to Revised Core. The next two in line, Lunar and SanSan, have roughly a year before they rotate - depending on how quickly the next two cycles come out. If you think you're going to want everything in that time then sure, get those. I'd rarely recommend someone just try and swallow the card pool whole though. The usual advice is to buy Core, see what factions you like at first, then pick up Deluxe Boxes to suit and any key data packs to fill out from there. There's always proxies and Jinteki.net while you're sorting out what you want next.

Easiest way to bypass all the above of course is just to buy someone's collection if you get the chance - it'll be old Cores, but usually will have the Genesis and Spin cycles so would be all the cards that are in Revised anyway.
