I mean Ossoff's terrible rear end made it a point to not give a loving inch to the left and folks still raged out over the left not enthusiastically aligning behind him in that race.

Neither party is willing to help those most in need, or to help in any appreciable way. Oh man, Trump banned trans people from the military, which isn't great and only serves to further stigmatize trans people. Meanwhile the vast majority of trans people struggle to find adequate medical care in the states and are subject to discrimination in any state with at-will employment. Until the democrats have the balls to put people before Capitalism, rather than the other way around, their support for minority rights is ultimately shallow. Infrastructure doesn't get funded without tax increases, campaign finance reform doesn't come without disempowering the wealthy. The Democrats do some good things, which is great, but a shocking amount of them seem to be just republicans who have rich gay/black friends, and at that point why even bother?

But this isn't a primary, it's a general, and the choice between the parties right now could not be more stark. I've got a friend in Puerto Rico who doesn't have power. I'm doing work for agencies that are dying under budget cuts and hiring freeze. The idea that people are still arguing that the Dems are just as bad as the Republicans is just absolutely baffling, and the continued ideological obstinance by some-not all, certainly not all-to is utterly frustrating as all hell. FWIW, I voted straight ticket Dem in 2016, and will probably do so for the midterm elections. I'm just pissed off that I'm only voting for somebody because they don't treat me quite as shittily as the alternative. I've also been doing research and voting in primaries for more leftist candidates

Absolutely gently caress the DNC and the powerful members of the democratic party who gently caress things up from the top, but take a serious look at each candidate before writing them off. Most of them probably aren't Lieberman tier shitheels, and as such would be tremendously helpful in at least bringing us back to deadlock politics rather than the current trip to hell we're going through.

NewForumSoftware posted:Because the Republicans aren't restraining the left from having any influence in policymaking. Except they absolutely are. Every conservative think tank, PAC, and donor group is dedicated primarily to destroying left ideas in both the political realm and the public discourse, and using the Republican party as a vehicle to do it. It's true that the Dems have been moving toward the Republicans since (arguably) 1968, but the thing is the Republicans have also been moving rightward during that time. Dems being not as bad may or may not be enough to get you to vote for them. That's up to each individual voter to decide. And yes, sometimes the Dems are in a position to do more damage than the Republicans in a shorter amount of time (Clinton's welfare reform) thanks to the Republicans being differently constrained. But the idea that, on the whole, the Dems are worse than the Republicans is really just kind of dumb.
