Also all you have to do is download the NBC app, and you can watch the current season of The Good Place. No sub required. I am not sure how long the episodes stay up, but it works as a DVR for me (since my Vue sub doesn't have NBC), but you just have to watch the commercials.

No. Even though there are plot twists, the show's sense of humor is consistent. If you didn't find it funny at that point, you probably won't. Five episodes is certainly a fair shot.

I'll agree with this. Just because there's a "twist" doesn't change anything about how the content is delivered. I really like it. However, if it's not for you, then that's okay too.

It's just there to ramp up the tension in their discussion.

Fincher seems to like having an important discussion go on while something else urgent is slapping you in the face on screen. Remember when Holden is on the phone and finding out the Kemper tried to kill himself, while at the same time being distracted by seeing Tench, Carr and Shepard walking out of the room together?

Secretly force socialism, communism and imperialism types of government onto the people of the United States of America.

Started Season 2 of Stranger Things. Three episodes in, and I'm feeling like it's not bad, and I'll enjoy watching the rest. Not feeling compelled to burn through it like the first season, probably because the plot is a lot less compelling and there's much less mystery. Still really enjoying the soundtrack, and the actors do good work with their characters.

Patton Oswalt's new special, Annihilation, is brutally good. I nearly teared up at some of the stuff about his wife, and managed to still be laughing a few seconds later. Good on him. Also loved the crowd work bit at the top of the act and just how much that first woman he speaks too is just terrible at her job and doesn't give a poo poo.

The Netflix documentary One of Us, about people leaving Hasidic communities was amazing, though definitely depressing. The filmmakers threaded the needle pretty well of showing how terrible the community is towards people who don't fit in, while at the same time contextualizing the ultraorthodox lifestyle and philosophy as a response to the Holocaust.

I wonder how much truth in they were planning to end it after 6 vs. this forced their hand. Might be a mixture of both. Only say that, because it has been on its last legs for awhile.

I am actually surprised it is coming back for one final season after this weekend.

About the only show I can remember worth watching through a bad first season just to get to the twist is Agents of Shield. I agree that if you don't like genial humor with a pinch of darkness then you'll never warm much to The Good Place.

Binged stranger things S2. I think I have lower standards than most folks because despite how derivative it was of S1 I enjoyed the hell out of it.

I found it a bit overlong at 90 minutes because it's the same thing all the way through (jokes about other countries and America) but I respect the hell out of the way it was done/edited (he basically did shows for a whole year in the same outfit and with the same theme)

totally agree, my recommendation to people is to just watch as much of it as you want, it's good content if a bit repetitive and doesn't really build to an ending. but his crowdwork and jokes are good the whole way through

I don't feel bad for Spacey, as he is way more rich and successful than I am and also HE WAS 14 YOU NONCE, but it would really suck if he legitimately doesn't remember and hasn't done anything else since then (though it appears he has done more, so gently caress him).

If anything comes out about Richard Dreyfuss, Gary Oldman, or Tim Roth, I am done with this planet.

Dreyfuss and Oldman are pretty lovely regressive assholes, but I guess that's a fair distinction. I thought you were just lionizing them, which is kinda scary. There aren't a whole lot of actors/directors anymore where I feel unambiguously "if this person turns out to actually suck I'm gonna be sad".

Having said that, Tim Roth is cool so far as I know, he just happened to be lumped in with two assholes.
