Bajaj posted:LOL, get with the times, old man/woman! That woman's book was wrong, because you don't need to eat them all at once or whatever weird crap she said. There are also some studies indicating rice may not be as Lysine deficient as previously thought, but given that most people don't just eat rice and will consume other stuff which almost always contains lysine it's really not that huge of a consideration. It contains Lysine just not copious amounts. uhh so eat rice? and don't feel compelled to pair it with anything. It's also worth noting that if you eat only rice all day every day you probably won't get lysine deficiency side effects like "literally going blind" because there should be a sufficient amount of lysine for that not to happen. Dietary recommendations are difficult because it's a scale that goes from "you're hosed" to "you're existing alright" to "pretty good" to "you're an optimally fueled machine and maybe even slightly overfueled so your body passes some excess good stuff". Rice won't put you in the bad category for protein stuff. Khorne fucked around with this message at 15:41 on Nov 1, 2017 |

Rice owns and goes with pretty much everything and has a bunch of flavor profiles you can add. Of course eating it just plain is kinda eh.

Also no variety. Sodas have a bunch of flavors to choose from and everyone has a preference. There are a million ways to make a casserole and they all have a variety of ingredients including meats, cheese, veggies, and carbs. Sandwiches? There's an infinite combination of things you could do. It would have to be like plain toast with a smear of nearly flavorless jelly to even be close to how devoid of character seaweed soup is.

POW's given only rice got Berri Berri, just like Chickens that were only raised on rice, I think that kick started a big research into chicken feed to ensure they'd eat something that helped them produce B12 around WW2 or something by the Brits.

Khorne posted:Rice, like most cereal grains, is Lysine deficient. For a meal, or hell for a few days, that's not relevant. There are loads of vegetables that contain great quantities of Lysine, and of course animal products are loaded with it. Rice... I personally don't care about rice. It's a trash grain and I don't care if I never eat it plain again for the rest of my life. I cook often at home, and the last time I cooked just rice alone as a dish was 2009. It's useless filler and I got a little joy in China telling people I didn't like rice. They would ask if I ate bread, and I would say no (at least not Chinese bread) and they would be so confused how I could survive. simplefish posted:The commonly accepted answer to this in China is Potato

You have to watch out for fake black rice though Real on the left, fake on the right. There's a reddish hue after steeping in water for a while. This shows the natural pigments in the rice are slowly being extracted. The fake stuff is dyed with Mao knows what and leaves the water ink black immediately. Alternatively, you can have "rice" that never sheds any pigment like what happened to this guy in Beijing.

This is correct as far as I know. Potatoes are close to having all the necessary nutrients, but they lack some proteins that any meat or dairy can supply. One of the many reasons potatoes have been so important.

From several pages back, but to my knowledge no, it has done nothing but generate big LINPACK numbers. As for where they got the technology from, a mix of buying it and stealing it, like most things. And it's not particularly good. The mark of advancement in computation nowadays is being able to do more with less and in order to get the numbers it did TaihuLight uses a 40,960 cores and suffers from serious memory bottlenecks. By comparison, the Summit supercomputer that is going to replace Titan at Oak Ridge next year is specced for over double the Chinese computer's pflop performance with only 4,600 cores.
