There is hardly anywhere to rent 4k blu-rays. I go with 4k Blu-Ray for HDR/4K and lossless audio. I have a feeling once the rental market catches up, more and more people will be seeing the differences. It doesn't help however that it is confusing as hell for the general consumer. Have a 4k? Awesome. Which HDR standard does it support? Have a receiver you want to run that through? Are your HDMI Ports HDCP 2.2 compliant to pass 4k/HDR through the receiver when viewing a 4k disc? Did you plug your device into the RIGHT HDMI input? 3 out of your 6 inputs do not support HDCP 2.2. Want Dolby Vision? Yours may only pass through HDR10. Have your HDMI cables upgraded to support the high speed bandwidth? Oh you have your PSVR installed? Sorry can't pass HDR through the PS4/Pro unless you have the newest version. So.... Unplug that PSVR, buy the newest version of PSVR, or buy a switch. Have an Xbox One S/X and want to see what Dolby Vision looks like? Sorry. Isn't happening. Not Supported. It's a not mess right now. I legit didn't know that 4K Bluray is a thing and i think the last (only) Bluray disc i bought was Planet Earth. It joins my extensive Bluray collection of the free copies of LA Confidential and UFC Best 100 Fights that i got for pre-ordering stuff at Gamestop years ago.

Well, for sale anyway to purchase said movies. I watched Spider-Man Homecoming on 4k Blu-Ray HDR. It was VERY good, but what I really wanted to do was pass Dolby Vision because it's also a Dolby vision HDR title. Couldn't do it because my 4k player is an Xbox One S, and that only supports HDR10. I watch Stranger Things Season 2 through my LG OLED and Arc back to the receiver, using the netflix app on the set because it supports Dolby Vision. My God... It was so drat epic I cannot even explain how awesome it looked. Tons of new content will be coming out supporting DV. I highly recommend trying some titles. Thing is, MS doesn't support it, and LG and one other is the only player so far that supports it, and you will want to have a receiver that supports it as well (Most now are at least coming out with supporting all three standards) And right around the corner... HDR10+. With that said, Dolby is going to start dominating the HDR/Audio market again in the theaters. https://www.dolby.com/us/en/dolby-cinema/locations.html And it will be easy transfers to the 4k discs from native material shot during filming. I cannot wait to see the new Star Wars in a Dolby Cinema. Utnayan fucked around with this message at 22:57 on Nov 8, 2017 |

If you think that's a mess you have to track which studios generally use good quality encodes for even their 4KHDR releases, and even per film wait for other people to report back on disc quality. Physical media is trying really hard to kill itself off.

I edited my post to see how that could be smoothed out. https://www.dolby.com/us/en/dolby-cinema/locations.html The more and more films coming out that are shot in this format for these theaters, the easier the transfers will be to Blu-Ray. And the standard will be forced as it will be easier to transfer this to media in it's native format than implementing others. Here are the list of the films. https://www.dolby.com/us/en/cinema/theatrical-releases.html

Side by side HDR10 vs Dolby Vision was just meh to me. HDR10+ will be out soon and will probably make DV disappear as it’s the same thing without a licensing fee. All 16+ Samsung UHD TVs are HDR10+ compatible now thanks to a firmware update. 4k blu ray rules, but Apple has done a really fine job with their 4k encodes. It’s too bad streaming audio is garbage in comparison.

DV is also what the latest wave of theaters were built/upgraded to support and doesn't require a newer HDMI version that almost nothing supports yet. I think it'll be messier than you're suggesting.

The Xbox can't switch sources for you. A small nitpick though. This thing is practically silent. But I guess I don't have any games that stress it yet.

I bought Siege again because it is my fav fps and goddamn does it look like poo poo on Xbox, but at least it runs at 60fps. The thing that blew me away though was the surround sound, way better than ps4 and PC. I guess that Atmos poo poo really worked. Just a thing I noticed but the 1080p upscaling to 4k the X does for Netflix is so much better than what my TV would try to do with a 1080p signal on its own.

Top Gun posted:How is this acceptable? Because giving Microsoft half a grand for unacceptability is what people like you do. Seriously though, I don't know what you expected differently, these download sizes and install times have been a persistent thing that's only gotten worse and was specifically not being improved in any meaningful way with the Xbox One X. If it helps almost all (there are a few exceptions of various capacities, and this doesn't apply to playing online) PS4 disc games are playable within less than a minute of inserting the disc for the first time, PS4 Pro included.

I have faster download speeds on my Xbox One X than I do on my PS4. It generally uses my full bandwidth to download around 3 MB/s. Shame all these games are hovering around 50-60 gigs a pop now but thats the breaks to get the high-res assets.
