Well if something killed my parents and made me bankrupt I wouldn't like that thing and I think that's a pretty fair standpoint really given the circumstances of becoming a penniless orphan due to the thing in question. This isn't a criticism of speedrunning in particular, but any thing that makes you penniless / parentless is pretty bad, unless of course that's your fetish or something, in that case it's all good.

So you got a feeling of accomplishment when you leveled up enough to be powerful enough to fight them.

Speed running is stupid because they're usually cheating. Some dude beat Diablo in six minutes but he basically rerolled each level hundreds of times until the stairs down spawned right next to the stairs up on every single level. That's not speed running that's save scumming, you're a liar and the worst kind of nerd. If I was emperor of the world you better loving believe there'd be consequences.

One thing I don't like in level scaling is in Bloodborne, when there's enemies of a certain level and then the same enemies in another area will be higher level just because that's an area you go to later in the game. Have different enemies there bitch! It's worst in the lecture hall, where the downstairs students are low level because you go there early game, but then when you go upstairs in the late game there's the EXACT SAME STUDENTS but much higher level!

When you get to that level of competition emotions run high, but only the emotions of the fans. A good speedrunner never gets excited as this could cause you to easily approach a corner at the wrong angle or in extreme cases could cause you to run a pixel past a ladder before going up it. It's not done for glory or money, it is done for personal pride. If other people get on board then cool, whatever, but in a speedrunners minds eye there is only one visible thing and that thing is the ticking clock that determines whether he is or is not the very very best at Green Hill Zone.

To be fair, speedrunninng, like any hobby, doesn’t matter to anyone besides the people who already care. Do you give a poo poo about kayaking? Scrapbooking? Stamp collecting? Bird watching? Fishing? gently caress no you don’t, and someone talking to you about how they saw a rare jackdaw at 5 am with frozen claws gripping their binoculars is precisely as inane as someone talking about their frame perfect 21.05 Super Metroid clear This comes from years of trying to explain magic: the gathering to girlfriends and eventually realizing there isn’t a way to explain it that isn’t incredibly lame, but who cares because knitting is just as lame.

but with knitting, when all is said and done, you end up with a comfy hat or sweater fishing and birdwatching you have time outside and memories and photographs and actual fish to eat mtg you can win money and get paid
