(I really, really hope they can work out a deal with Minnesota to get the Aeros name because apparently I was mistaken before and they hold the rights to it or something? finally getting a team in Houston but not having that name would suuuuuuuuuuck)

This was inevitable from the moment the Rockets were sold. Seattle is too far away from being expansion ready, so Houston is the obvious choice to balance the conferences. If Seattle ever gets its act together they'll get a relocated team rather than an expansion franchise.

It'll be interesting to see what Fertitta does actually. He just (technically) spent two thirds of his net worth on the Rockets, I doubt he'll be that keen to drop another $500M just to get an NHL expansion franchise. That probably means they'll end up with one of those complicated conglomerate ownership groups that sank Atlanta.

Things sure are swell for the Coyotes.

quote:

The National Labor Relations Board launched two investigations into the Arizona Coyotes during the past 13 months, probing allegations that the National Hockey League team spied on staff, engaged in union busting and fired two employees who raised concerns about pay, federal records say.

The financially struggling franchise reached a settlement earlier this year in one labor case filed by its payroll administrator...

Meanwhile, the Coyotes face a Jan. 9 hearing before an NLRB administrative-law judge on another investigation.

In that case, a former ticket salesman alleges the Coyotes interfered with employees' rights to unionize. James Whitener claims the Coyotes fired him for engaging in protected labor activities, and the team asked employees to sign separation agreements that were "overly broad and unlawful."

The Coyotes have denied all of the allegations.

A 100% serious post: contract the Coyotes.

e: actually, move the Coyotes to Houston and the Central (or Milwaukee and the Central, latter preferred but less likely), then give Seattle a team for the Pacific. Boom, problems solved.

When you're about five players deep and start to list players like Cam Dineen and Jordan Martinook (who's 25) as exciting prospects for the future, you might have to sit down and accept that you don't really have much of a prospect pool to speak of.

Kale

Of course Bergevin would use the huge available cap space to go out and sign a goalie that is widely considered an SAS recurring joke, because just of course. God drat if he's not the worst GM in the league by a long shot in 2017 and I loving hate how he keeps blaming the players like he doesn't suck dicks at getting anybody even remotely competent in their positions.

And if people think he won't insist Julien play him and force his hand by sending Lindgren back down to the minors than they obviously aren't Habs fans.

I had to double check the date on the article, and sure enough they're mentioning a guy who has already been a full-timer in the league for years.

I just hope Price gets his poo poo together whenever he comes back, though the way things are going he'll probably just get mysterious injuries again. 4-5 goals against on 25 or so shots every single game isn't going to bump up that win count after all. Lindgren feels like the only one capable of keeping it down at league average so far this season and it kind of scares me that it's proven to not all just be an issue of team defense. Of the games he's played Price really has sucked this season more than I've ever seen him suck at any point since 2010 (Montoya not much better either but smaller sample of games), but the fact that it's like 3-5% of how I've seen him play throughout his career gives me hope.

Still the Habs only really started winning games and looking moderately competent after Lindgren got called up....it's hard to know what to think until Price comes back and plays 5 games or so.

Barry Trotz decided to scratch Jakub Vrana tonight despite him being a +6.3% relative corsi player and generally looking pretty decent.

I think Trotz's time is up. This is his hallmark bullshit in dealing with rookies.

edit: https://twitter.com/ikhurshudyan/status/931235850704130048

loving look at this quote. It's not even close to accurate. Vrana has been skating harder than most of the team and now he's in the doghouse for no reason.
