The "and/or" construction in type is weird, since there's no rules instructions on whether and how you'd select one or both.
It should be tied to which "mode" he's in.

So what do you guys think Unstable singles will shake out to be? I guess it somewhat depends on the print run. I really want to buy a box but I’m a tad cash right right now, but I’m nervous the price will jump post release.

I am hearing that stores aren't really interested in opening this set for singles. You'd think that means singles costs would go up (low supply) but probably not because (low demand).

Augment rules, and TBH looks cleaner and from both an aesthetic and design perspective as a way of doing what Meld was trying to do. I could see it smoothed out more and made into a black border thing.

None of these abilities work in black border. The reason people keep saying "this could work in black border!" is because they're all rejected mechanics they realized don't work in black border already.

What happens if you don't choose Khans or Dragons on a Siege card from Fate Reforged? I'm guessing the game just doesn't progress?

edit: Oh, without having activated the ability. I was thinking you'd have to choose a creature type because of the and/or.

The correct silver border answer is obviously that it's power and toughness is a mystery. It deals base damage of (P)? and has toughness of (T)? It deals ? amounts of base damage if its controller hasn't used the ability. This is always a base of at least 1 since the only options are 1 or 3. If a creature takes (P)? damage and 1 damage would destroy it, it is destroyed since (P)? can't be less than 1 without other effects.

Similarly, it has (T)? as its toughness and doesn't die to combat damage unless the damage exceeds the total possibilities assuming the controller used the ability to give it the higher toughness total (meaning without external enhancement it always dies to 4 damage).

I totally made this all up but its my head-canon. :v:

(I assume you just set it to 0/0 unless the controller uses the ability)

So what you're saying is, that since we don't know when ? will be not 0, when we do know, it'll deal that much damage however many times it did damage.

Every time damage is marked on something from a Mystery Shellephant, it, the player or the Planeswalker takes ? as base damage. If the owner uses the ability, that ? marked on the object becomes Shellephant's base power, but is always at least 1 (of course, modified by anything that modified Shellephant's power at the time it did the damage) because that is the lowest option Shellephant can ever have.

Meaning, you can be at 5 life, plus 3 instances of ? damage. If the owner uses the ability to set Shellephant's power to 3, YOU ARE ALREADY DEAD. The only real question left is what happens if Shellephant is moved to the absolutely-removed-from-the-freaking-game-forever zone prior to it's power and toughness being set through it's ability. Based on Shellephant's wording, it should still be able to use it's ability in the absolutely-removed-from-the-freaking-game-forever zone as that is just another zone.

It isn't an official format. If you're making a magic deck to play magic with other magic players, put whatever cards in it you and the people you're playing with are happy about.
