Like Contrapoints said. All of the cons of being famous with none of the perks. You get into online drama, you have to constantly pander to your audience, it doesn't pay well, you sit on your rear end at home most of the time. Really quite depressing TBH.

Worth watching to the end where after going on for a while about how worthless centrists just want to feel smart and declare both sides as bad as each other at the beginning, he outright says that socialism and corporatism are both as bad as each other and stupid. One the things already brought up to you is that "gaming" in this is actually a non-factor, for the people getting talked about their whole stream content is often "Slap on the absolute least permissible, 'dance' for donations" and sometimes plain old shilling their paysite type stuff, even if it's in the category for stuff other than videogames it's still kind of dodgy dude.

This is my take on it as well. If you put out content that is obviously going on 90 percent sex appeal in any platform where people put in hard work and try to mask it as "education, streaming, art" etc. then that is a lovely thing to do.

I kind of respect the fact that there is someone out there in 2017 who can speak for 18 minutes without jumpcuts. Unfortunately, he probably smells his own farts and he is a major hypocrite. He is spot on with centrists though. As for hipsters who like Dictor Who I kind of agree, but its better to be a hipster that is crazy about Doctor Who and Harry Potter since you grow out of that poo poo sooner or later. God forbid you might interact with people and get laid. You never really grow out of liking oldschool RPGs while eating cheetos, which is kind of my situation.

The only steams worth watching are ones done by people who had something to do with making the game they’re streaming, like when the voice actors for the main characters of a Final Fantasy XV streamed the game together.

Well, being "college educated" doesn't necessarily you were actually educated in college or that you're smart or capable of abstract reasoning. It just means you attended a university and acquired a degree. It's more a marker of privilege than intelligence.

Privileged white people believing dumb poo poo while a black man is president is fairly unsurprising. Especially if said privileged white people come from a red state.

I wouldn't really say that a dedicated sex cammer is doing more or less work than any other dedicated kind of streamer. Most of them don't do research or anything into their games because them having no idea and getting cues from chat is part of the appeal.

I always figured those four hour videos of a static image and some guy complaining about feminism were designed to be background noise to listen to while playing video games.

"Noble" is goofy sounding but if someone does well for themselves streaming or doing LPs or whatever, should they stop and work something miserable instead? I mean even on the point of "hardworking", if you're not DSP level, recording a screen with a camcorder and making GBS threads unedited footage out onto youtube, you've probably put money and effort into setting up and testing around with better equipment, you've learned or are learning to edit videos properly, making sure the sound is actually nice to listen to and is leveled right, like you're not digging ditches but constantly recording, editing, coming up with worthwhile commentary or at least cultivating some kind of likable shtick, all of that isn't effortless either. And this isn't a defense of the dumb turds that act like it's actually the hardest job in the world or anything.

And I mean especially now in light of poo poo like THE ALMIGHTY ALGORITHM on youtube, if you want to stay "relevant" to the arcane crapheap that is their system you have to stay on the ball, which means constant, consistent videos with a good run-time, but not too long of a run-time, it has to be something you know more people will run into, otherwise the system thinks you're on the way out, it promotes chasing trends and racing to be the first person to get content out, otherwise you're gonna get smothered by the usual suspects and so on. If you want to make some okay living off streaming or videos, it is fairly hard work if you're not some rich boy in the first place like PDP.

Full-time Twitch-streaming seems pretty grueling as far as 9-5 jobs go. A relentless non-ending routine of just trudging through online games while trying to engage an unruly and chaotic chat. For example, I distinctively get the impression every time I watch Destiny jump into a discussion that debating is something he started doing just because it lets him get out of the drudging routine of playing video-games he got bored with 2000 hours ago.

Like video editing sucks but lets not kid ourselves that performing in front of a live audience that you have to interact with for a full work-day is not work.

Also, Twitch just needs to make a section for adult or risque content and call it a day. These channels with scantily clad women gaming are partly popular due to kiddies skirting parental controls and watching hot girls on Twitch since they can't elsewhere. In any case, these girls are just taking advantage of a platform that's there to be taken advantage of - good on them. It's like people who hate the Kadashians more than the millions of people who like and follow them.

Twitch has nothing to do with the actual games people are playing. It's the streamers' reaction to the games and interaction with the audience that people care about. The gaming is just a pretense for a friendship simulator; hot girls are providing a different kind of friendship simulation service.

If people who watch Twitch gave a poo poo about the games then they'd just go play the games. We live an isolated world - you can't even couch co-op in games these days - so people have turned to Twitch for that friendship simulation service.

Yeah, this, kinda.

I mean if I'm going to be completely non derisive about it the point of lets playing and is fundamentally social. I think I heard it best described as "passive multiplayer". You watch it because you want to experience other people's experience of something you both like, but you do it in a passive way rather than actually having someone over to play games with, this isn't wrong, it's just different.

Streaming is semi-active because of the chat element but it's still fundamentally a social activity, the games are an accessory to that, the mutual interest and framing device for the social element.

Exactly. I don't feel that there's anything wrong with it, at all. I do feel that it is a band-aid for a fairly sad and insidious problem, though - social isolation.

live broadcasting is most definitely a skill, you try keeping an audience engaged for hours on end. Being able to focus on a game while responding to chat, giving shout outs to repeat viewers, explaining the strategy/mechanics of what you're doing, and finding ways to prevent dead air takes a lot of work/talent.

That said a lot of people on twitch don't have that talent.
