The whole "only cosmetic" thing is such a wonderful bit of psychology. The game design clearly understands you want it, and will take pleasure from the good ones. And what is the entire point of a game? To take pleasure in it. Oh but it's only gambling if the thing you have fun with is arbitrarily defined as a specific element within the meaningless game you're playing.
