I loving love your figure drawings. They look so effortless. All my figures look stiff. I usually go good with practicing them for about a week or two and then I get burned out or frustrated.

I haven't had anything click for me yet, so it's an uphill struggle. I've tried to look for classes, but the art teachers of my city apparently refuse to work past 6PM or on weekends. I've never heard of Proko but I've skimmed a Loomis book and found it way too prescriptive for me, with the line-skeleton frames and ideal proportions and everything. Personally I think that whole approach is super unintuitive and generates stilted drawings because it's adding an extra level of analysis to the observation of the raw figure that sucks all the life out of it. That's my own 2 cents, I'm sure it works for many people since it's such a famous resource but I could never get the hang of it. It's a stylistic thing too of course, I'm pretty loose with anatomy and rarely even try to sketch a model's whole body. I think if the goal is to get vivid and lifelike figure drawings, the only resource I'd recommend is Drawing on the right side of the brain, since it focuses on contours and on observation - the verve of the human body comes from its contours, the realism comes from observation, and you end up sketching a lifelike figure with energy. If the goal is to generate human figures from your imagination, the stick-and-ball proportion-measurement approach might lend itself more to that. But as a basis for drawing from life I've found it totally uninspiring.

The trick with figure drawing is always to first find the gesture. If your drawings feel stiff and cumbersome, it's because you either haven't found the gesture, or you haven't exaggerated the gesture enough. Finding the gesture consistently takes a long time to get good at, and there's no real solution aside from doing an absolute shitload of gesture drawings. Franchescanado, do you have any examples of your figure drawings handy? It can be good to have a second set of eyes looking at your drawings if you think there's something wrong about them. For me, it's easy to get wrapped up in minutiae and end up missing the bigger picture of why a drawing doesn't work, and having someone else looking at it is immensely helpful.

I wish I had some good advice concerning drawing figures, other than practice. A lot. I don’t use a particular technique, which probably shows. I focus on emotion—I know it’s fuzzy and romantic, but there it is.

So I just hit that generator a bunch of times until I got some combos I thought I could work with, and I think it's personally been a GREAT way for me to make myself learn things.

Al! posted:do people actually watch drawing streams????? i streamed with aseprite a couple of times but except for the couple of buddies that wanted to watch i don't think i had anyone drop in. When you search through a category, Twitch shows you the most popular channels first, so if you have no-one or only a couple of people watching, it's difficult to get noticed in the sea of other people doing the same thing since you need to scroll alllll the way down to find the stream. This means that you've got to be streaming at the time when someone searches, as well. I've been streaming for a couple of years, and when I'd get all the regulars in at the same time, or a sudden raid from another channel, I'd also get a lot more new people dropping in. However, few of them would stay and I've usually only got the few regulars dropping in. I honestly did not think it was something anyone would wanna watch, but I've kept up the habit because it means I've got a dedicated time to drawing. Wowporn posted:I mostly only watch streams archived on YouTube since you don't need to catch them live, I'm not good at that You know Twitch archives the last 16 streams anyone's made if the user has the option enabled? When you go on a channel that's not on, it should also show you the option to watch the last stream. Look just under the "try prime" text on the twitch banner, left of the icon of the person whose channel you're on. Click the "videos" link and see the endless glory of non-interactive joy.
