I found that low stance Odachi is quick enough to get a few hits in before switching in combo to high stance and finishing the job.

Then when you've done that and you know what you like you can respec to whichever 1 or 2 weapons you want to stick with (until you get bored and respec again, they're basically free anyway).

I love the Odachi move set so it's what I mostly use. Only complaint is that it's a dlc weapon so I haven't seen any unique versions yet in the main campaign. The grapple is just so loving cool looking.

I just did Mount Hiei without going into any of the shrines and beating the white tiger on my first go around. I wanted to take a picture of the end cutscene. Because I didn't go to any shrine, Guess what jack, i gotta do the whole thing all over again.

I have way more trouble with the Yokai Monks than actual Wheelmonk. So far i have fought only one tengu, and that was part of a sub mission on ocean roars again area. Holy poo poo they hit hard and strike way too often to warrant that damage

I don't think wheelmonks are that bad. Just bait the fire breath sweep attack, get a few hits in, repeat until you knock it over, repeat until dead. Tengus can get hosed for sure though

Something I found out about wheelmonks is that they have a weak spot on the back. You'll see a glowing yellow spot (I guess it's supposed to be Amrita?) and if you hit them there, it'll knock them out. Also, if you manage to stay around midrange with them or so, they'll just keep doing the fire breathing attack, which leaves them open for a bit. With wheelmonks, the best way to fight them I think is to just stay out of their path when they're moving (though that can be hard, as the fire trails they leave reduce where you can move.)

the wheelmonk instant turn and bump for all your hp is pretty lame, but the worst thing about them is that they show up a ton on higher difficulties and have a boatload of hp and yeah you can fight them safely by just baiting the fire breath and running in for pokes but wow it takes forever

I died about 40 times to this fucker before I decided to just cheese the poo poo out of it. Take off all your armor so you can move quick and use a long range weapon like a nodachi or spear. Get a few hits on him until the helper comes in then sit back and only hit when you're sure you wont die. Use sloth to keep the helper dude alive longer (it'll help him dodge) but mostly just stay out of the way. When he dies just draw the Orniyoki back then sprint over to the dude and rez him. When I played on PS4 I somehow managed to solo the Orniyoki after like 3 tries, but on the PC it just loving dominated me. I'm using Warrior of the West armor and a Nodachi/Axe combo. The Axe has been near cheating with the heavy double attack, and the nodachi is just unfair vs revenatns. I want to like the Katana, I used it on my PS4 run, but the Nodachi is just soooo much better, and the Axe is insanely cheap.

The trick to wheelmonks is block and don't touch the movement stick at all - they'll roll into you, stop, be confused and do a firebreath. Every. Single. Time. Once they firebreath you dodge through it and hit them once in the back for an instant-ki break. Get some damage in. When they get back up, dodge away, stop touching the movement stick and block. Repeat above. They'll stop rolling so quickly and push you backwards with the blocking just enough so you don't even touch the firepath they lay down. You never catch on fire doing this (being-on-fire-tip: stop drop and dodgeroll to put it).

Wheelmonks are vulnerable to being kicked in their big stupid faces so that's usually my strategy. Let it roll up, take one swing, and then do my weapon's ki drain kick. Two of those will exhaust its stamina, and then I can just wail on it while it's down.

Wheelmonks are easy, get close so they breathe fire and then just run around the back of them for an instant knockdown. You can also just dodge around them when they rush after doing donuts and do the same. Go to the left of them since they keep their vulnerable face on the left side when rolling.

Dual sword yokai and raven tengu take the lead as most annoying enemies for me. The former because it has teeny tiny wind-up and recovery for most of its attacks, and the latter because either you kill it in no time flat or it becomes a real problem when there are multiple enemies around.

I've beaten the game twice (PS4/PC) and I still Know This Thing. But when I scootchie around to try to hit the amrita block in the back. (Spoiler, Amrita blocks are usually weak points on most monsters, I'm looking at you, Walking Crab Yokai Samurai), they just twirl and start bumping me again. Honestly I've found the best thing to do is just spam a guardian talisman on them. I'm using Kitsune, but anything with a linear pierce attack will hit the amrita block in the back, and let you beat them up and steal their lunch money in relative safety. My nightmare is still three red kappa and three wheelmonks in a single room, however. This hasn't changed. It's not what they are that makes them unfair, they die in one hit, it's the fact that the devs will spawn them on you when you're locked pulling items off a body. If you're unlucky, it'll spawn when you ping the body, then just bump you before you're out of the loot animation. This rarely results in dying, but it still feels Cheap As gently caress, Mate. Kusarigama yokai are definitely my least favorite to deal with. It used to be the handcannon yokai, but since Yata Mirrors exists now they're one of my favorites. It's like playing pong, but deadlier. Actually, thinking about it, I hate bangasa the most. Little umbrella fuckers that dodge away from you every time you try to attack them, and if you weren't expecting them in a mission and didn't have anti-paralytic needles hotkeyed then, welp, good luck fucker. The paralysis resistance pills don't help at all after way of the strong, also. Red Kappa are at least easier to hit, and their projectiles are easier to dodge.

They blush and look away when you put the pressure on them. They attack at the rate of like once every ten seconds. Sure, their ambushes can suck. But that's a one-time dealio. Red Kappas are the Big Boy Bad Mans you didn't know existed. They attack like it's Black Friday and Attacking is a Buy One Get Fifteen Free sale. They chase you around like little trash goblins and fling poop(???) from their heads at you that does like 3(???) damage and paralyzes you in two hits. This is rarely a problem on it's own. Also, I decided to start a new game with a spear/tonfa build, so I could learn those movesets gradually. Also so I could see the cutscenes again. I'd forgotten how long it takes to use talismans without the mystic art, which kept getting me in trouble for awhile. I like spears a lot now though. Their low stance moveset is really good, only does a bit less damage than mid stance but the quick attack combo comes out fast and hits a gently caress ton of times. The demon drop skill is a lot of fun as well, especially if you time it so you're vaulting over dudes right at they try to counter attack.

Picked this up on PC a couplefew weeks back. I like the combat system being more involved than Dark Souls. Heard that ninjutsu was the more nuke/damage focused "caster" path, but I'll be damned if my effective dps didn't skyrocket in WotD after switching from a 99dex/hayabusa+kusarigama build to 99magic/reddemon+spear build. Now I'm trying to get a decent onmyo hat to drop so I can increase cast speed. Tips?
