kadokawa removed the kemono friends s1 director and staff from the production of s2 e: fwiw, GLT seems to benefit as much from strong source material as the staff on the show, so i don't think a staffing shakeup on a later season would affect this as much as people are worried about kemofure

No real evidence to suggest they're related. Closest thing to it is both of them talking about "grampa", but that's a common enough term of endearment, especially in Japanese. The author certainly seems to ship them, if that anthology comic's any indication.
