Fenrir posted:I'm probably a bit older than you - I graduated high school just before NSV came out - but otherwise that's the exact way i think about that record. Over 20 years later it still sounds unique and special to me. I've since listened to a ton of brutal, technical death but NSV was my gateway, so to speak. Before that I really only listened to thrash and black metal. 27 now. Found it after it had been out for a while (96 what the gently caress how?). I wasn’t listening to a lot of stuff at that level when I think about it. I was playing around with real death metal but only on the fringes. I’ll have to get it in rotation this week no doubt. There’s nothing like it. Fenrir posted:Man, I think we're cut from the same cloth. I've enjoyed the poo poo out of the new Ne O and Archspire. I still think Urn is a little weaker than Citadel but it's still a pretty drat strong record. Sounds like it right? Maybe? I’m not sure, I’m always throwing a million things into my backlog from this thread. Either way I’m glad I found them. Sometimes I’m not into the staccato vocal thing he does but everything else is great.

Exhumed was, as expected, loving amazing. Arkaik and local openers Upheaval also ripped. Unfortunately, Upheaval's sound quality sucked, everything was just cranked up to 11 with constant feedback and it just sounded horribly muddy. I'll blame that on them being a new local band that doesn't have a sound guy, but even with the lovely mixing they kicked rear end. According to the bassist, they have a new album coming out soon, so look for that on Bandcamp. I was right in front of the stage for most of Exhumed's set. God I love small venues. Check out this loving drum kit:

New Jess and the Ancient Ones album streamable here: http://teamrock.com/news/2017-11-28/jess-and-the-ancient-ones-stream-new-album-ahead-of-launch It could use a few more minutes of length on the shorter songs and maybe some fewer voice samples, but it is good poo poo.

Those are awesome albums From the Cradle to Enslave is an EP not an album. Midian is a weird one for me because I loved it back in the day when I was first getting into them but now the stinkers on that album really show through. I like the early stuff up to and including Cruelty and have been hit or miss with everything else. The last two or three albums have all been pretty good for what they are.
