It does its own thing and doesn’t try to imitate other forms of art, like all the cinematic masterpieces of the modern era do with movies.

The best part about the Roger Ebert thing is that even he admitted it was a stupid comment. Tbh that dude was a such a goon at heart he probably would have ended up really in to some of them by this point. I could see him going gaga over some walking simulators or something.

BotW is definitely GotY but there's no way in hell SMO is #2 it's delightful and could have easily claimed a top spot in like 2015 but 2017's lineup is just too strong for a mario game - even a good one - to make a huge impact if it's not really pushing the envelope like BotW did
