Uroboros posted:

Warp entities like demons are almost always explained as not having true forms since they are composed of basically pure madness, and merely take on a form that most accurately represents their nature, purpose, or the thoughts of what mortals imagine them to be when they enter real space. Even then more powerful demons often look different to the viewer because it isn't possible to truly comprehend "that which should not be".

Basically, it sounds like a dumb story that Orks would make up. The only reason Slaneesh even came into battle with the Eldar Gods is because it is one, effectively being birthed by them, but the notion of Gork/Mork running into Khorne any of the other Gods in the Warp, as if that concept has any meaning, and doing battle makes no sense based off what we know of the setting and how the entities within it are given life.

Whenever lovely GW authors depict the warp as basically space heaven/hell where the Gods are treated like the Pantheon of ancient Greece it comes off as incredibly uninspired and boring. Like a five year old describing how one imaginary giant monster beats up another.

I think I get what you are trying to say but we also get stories of the demons walking into each other's relms and interacting one on one.

The demon books have even layed out rough maps of each God's domain and their borders. We have stories of Nurgle taking the eldar God's as a prisoner. Things are sometimes abstract and sometimes literal. It can be both, it's the warp.

If human/eldar emotions/feelings make their Gods based on their strength in numbers and spirit then it makes sense that the orks get bigger God's.

The other races have so many facets of their minds that we end up with many God's to represent their souls. Orks are simple and all their thoughts end up in Gork or Mork. The power difference is more pronounced when you think about how many orks there are to the other races.

So basically orks are the best but they don't care about it as much. It is silly gw fluff that has been around forever. Let the comedy relief race be strong, and try not to think about how actually terrifying they really are.

The burning hulls of destroyed Astartes craft rained onto the killing fields, pulverising Word Bearers and Night Lords more often than they crashed into the few remaining pockets of Raven Guard and Salamanders survivors. When contacted by Legion commanders protesting the careless destruction, the Iron Warriors captains replied with laughter that bordered on betrayal.

‘We are all bleeding today,’ an Iron Warriors captain voxed back to Kor Phaeron. ‘Have faith, Word Bearer.’ The link went dead to the sound of chuckling.

And which one of us had to rise up against a kingdom with nothing but a horde of starving slaves? Which one of us was a child enslaved on a world of monsters, with his brain cut up by carving knives? Listen to your blue-clad wretches yelling of courage and honour, courage and honour, courage and honour. Do you even know the meaning of those words? Courage is fighting the kingdom which enslaves you, no matter that their armies outnumber yours by ten-thousand to one. You know nothing of courage. Yeah I checked the date for the booklet that promoted 40k and WHFB (3rd ed and 5th ed respectively) that was pretty much my gateway into the hobby and it came out in around 1998 so I was about 11 back then. But I didn't get my first models until a couple of years later.
In that case it was one of the start painting Marine boxes as a christmas gift or something.
Still have those models and just cleaned them up for a repaint at some point.

But I didn't really get into the hobby until much much later as well.

And now my purchases are really piecemeal and usually just done via bitz retailers because I want one or two single models to paint instead of full squads. Like I gave in and bought the Escher sprue today for instance.

At this point I want game balance more than anything else, it was half the reason I got hyped for 8th, and was ready for them to scuttle 7th Ed. At this point it seems clear that the only way you will have anything close to that is by getting rid of the traditional codex cycle, and putting all the rules online where they can be updated in real time as problems arise. I don't really care what GW has to charge me annually to make up for lost profits due to overpriced books, or if I need to buy monthly art prints to keep the guys who used to draw concept art, solely to cram into these books, in business.

Khorne talk; the Blood Pact, from Dan Abnett's Gaunt's Ghosts novels, are never specifically mentioned as being dedicated to Khorne, but are a great alternative to the "raving berserker" model of Khorne worship. They're brutal and viscous, but disciplined, with their structure deliberately modelled on the Imperial Guard, members of whom they sometimes subvert. Each member of the blood pact ritualistically scars their hands on the armour of their leader. Their specialists include snipers, infiltration teams, massed armour and warpcrafted weirdness. There's even a "blood witch" in one book who's basically a khornate sorcerer.

Female models would be nice if they were done well and not the super slutty thing that a lot of the 3rd party companies make. That female cadian 2LT from the Space Maine game would be a cool figure for example.

There's way too many of the 3rd party models though that go way too far. Saw a guard army where every heavy weapons teams was topless recently at my lgs which was weird as poo poo. I figure it's the 40k equivalent to anime card sleeves.

Yeah, I like how Abnett drops occasional world-building details as to how the Blood Pact come from an entire (reasonably stable) interstellar civilisation which just happen to worship Khorne.

Sorry, I meant that GW is not great given the single boobplate and waspish waists of the female stormcasts but they're nowhere near as bad/cheesecake as those other two. I was holding raging heroes and wargame exclusive as the very lowest end of the spectrum.
