Just ask them why the constitution of the confederacy mandated that "negro slavery" was a nationally protected institution and new territories/states could not make their own decisions about whether to include slavery or not.

Also how slavery was reason #1 listed in most states' Articles of Secession sent to Congress. I think it was #2 for the rest of them.

And the reb states all fought against the northern states' rights to not return fugitive slaves before the war. So modern folks who indulge in confederate icons as symbols of freedom and history are championing the opposite of freedom while promoting a historical narrative that is deliberately inaccurate.

And it's not just Obama, it's more or less every serious presidential candidate in the last 40 years. And until Trump, every single one of them wised up upon taking office (or were just lying in their campaign) because they realized it would undermine the peace process and destroy the United States's credibility as a mediator.

I'm saying it's OK to renege on a promise to do something that will actually cost lives. Ideally, none of them would have made the promise to recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital.
